Hi all!

I'm having a potty-training issue, and I was hoping someone might have advice. Eve has been fully potty-trained since last fall, but since a few weeks ago - and starting very suddenly - she's been pooping in her underwear on a very regular basis (like, daily). There's no clear reason at all why this is happening now. She just says she didn't know she had to go, and often won't even tell us she's gone at all - she'll just do it and act like nothing's happened, but she doesn't act at all embarrassed or like she did something not-ok. Also, when she poops (toilet or underwear), it's now in the tiniest quantities ever, repeated many times per day.

Has anyone else had this happen?  Any explanations or solutions? I already tried diet changes and Miralax - just made the poop softer, but still mostly ended up in underwear. (Sorry for the long poop story - I'm just at my wits end and lacking in solutions. It's a problem at home, of course, but particularly at preschool, where her room is for potty trained kids and just doesn't have the set-up to deal with this!)

Thanks!

Jess

Hey Jess,

Emm did this when he was first being potty-trained, but this sounds like something different, since she's not a beginner and was fine going in the potty previously. We didn't make a huge deal about it and he eventually started going in the potty. My friend's son got sick (diarrhea) at preschool and had an accident and suddenly was afraid to go and got horrible constipation because of it. Did she get sick or have an accident at school maybe? Maybe she's afraid of going in the potty for some reason?

Don't have much advice, but if you're looking for constipation remedies, I give Emmet a Pediasure (the chocolate shake kind) every morning b/c he's a terrible eater and he almost always poops right after he drinks it. I'm sure they're terrible and full of chemicals, but they work :)

Hang in there,

Kathy

Hey Jess!

I don't really have any insight into what is going on but maybe you can try letting her run around naked at home?  I think it helps them out two and two together and maybe she just needs a little reminder?

Good luck!
