hi all!

is there such a thing as a comfortable, high-quality futon or sofabed out there?  any recommendations?

my in-laws and brother-in-law are coming to stay with us (at the new place, which we won't have for another week) for christmas, so we're in a bit of a time crunch to figure out where they will all sleep.  ideally we'd get 2 comfortable futons or pull-out couches, but every experience that i've had with futons and sofabeds have been uncomfortable.  so if you've ever had a good night's sleep on a futon or sofabed, please let me know so i can pick your brain!!

we're also considering buying beds for them, but i'd prefer not to take up the space.

thank you!
michelle

Blow up mattresses ( ours is from Costco) are surprisingly comfortable these days!  I don't have any other recommendation on a futon or couch. Sorry!

Good luck with the move!

Hi Michelle!

Congrats on the new place! That's so exciting! Where is it?

Regarding sofa beds:

I think it depends on the frequency of use. The ikea ektorp is not a bad option for occasional use ( let's say your visitors come for a few days several times a year). It's also so affordable that you can replace them on an almost yearly basis for several years. If you spring for the highest quality mattress, I think it's a super option--it's just not the most aesthetic look.

The best in the market with amazing night sleep ( I used it once at a friends') and it was just like a nice mattress and her middle aged mom slept on it without complaint for 7 consecutive weeks is the comfort sleeper American leather company. This is a significantly more expensive, but people who have it, have it for 10 years and the sofas are comfortable and really nice.

We ended up purchasing a CB2 Luba day bed for out spare room. Mostly because of the space we have (it's more like a closet, but we needed it to fold out into a queen. It's a great option, but a pretty hard mattress so we sprung for a topper and our parents have had very restful and comfortable sleep there.

So, I guess your answer has to do with function, size, and expected frequency of use.

Hope this helps!

Big hugs all around :)

Lorena
