``We turned away over 55,000 people,'' Wittenberg said. ``We don't have more seats but we find ways to maximize the interest in those seats to benefit the organization and our overall efforts to get people running.''   source: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20670001&refer=home&sid=aXNMYZOA7zlU

Here's an idea.  Give 50% of the revenue from the so-called "lifetime seats" auction to the less rich, local New York City running clubs (West Side Runners, Prospect Park Track Club, etc.).  After all, there would be no New York Road Runners without the local runners, the local clubs, the local support...

Also, aren't these events run on public streets paid by tax dollars (the same tax dollars that went to the wall street bailout and wall street bonuses.  ask yourself, did you get a million dollar bonus this year?)

Here's a site that will broadcast a runner running in the public streets during the marathon:

Broadcast will start at 10am or so.

It's not clear who the runner is, but he or she will run some of the course, maybe stopping at a barbecue or two.  and definitely a lot of hand slapping in brooklyn.
