Subject: RE: Music to Our Ears

Hi Everyone,

Dan's feeding tube is in and he's doing well. There are some pretty fierce
storms rolling through, so I want to get off the computer quickly, but I
wanted you all to know that Dan came through the minor surgery just fine.
So much to be grateful for! Thank You God for everything, including all of
the wonderful pray-ers who will read this, some would say, mercifully short,
update. "E-see" you all tomorrow.

Lots of love and prayers,

Mary F.

All,
I am sorry to have to pass along to all of you the sad news I received this morning about my nephew, Dan Meeks. Dan gave up the fight this morning. He was in the family house, with his family surrounding him. He suffered a long time. It seems like it was one thing after another, from the time of his 25th birthday. Before being sent to Iraq, he had a wisdom-tooth-extraction-operation go badly awry, resulting in an infection that caused his entire head to swell. When he returned from his time in Iraq, he finally landed his dream job - fire fighter for a small municipality in New Jersey. For a short while, he had a great job that he took pride in, had a nice set of wheels that he took pride in, and had his own apartment.
One of the requirements of the job was that he become an EMT. Shortly after completing his quals, he contracted a MRSA infection. It was this that caused him to be out of work for months, and to lose his apartment,. He had to move back in with his parents, where he had constant IV drips of antibiotics, and lost more than 50 pounds. But, because he had been in such good physical condition prior to this, he actually beat the infection. His question for his doctor when he finally got news that the MRSA was no longer present, was "Then why do I still feel like crap, and have headaches all the time?" That was when the first MRI / CT-Scans were done, and revealed the presence of a tumor in his brain stem - in a place that made operating on it impossible. He went through about everything known to modern medicine - chemo,  radiation, the whole bit. His family investigated every avenue they could think of.  They took him to the best cancer care facilities - Sloan Kettering there in NYC, up to Boston, out to Cleveland, and Los Angeles. He experienced terrible pain, and the difficulties associated with medicines intended to calm the pain/ shrink the tumor. One result of the meds were wild fluctuations in his appetite and body weight.
The only comfort I find as I write is the knowledge that the awful ordeal of physical suffering for him is over.
Thank you all for your support and prayers.
Larry

So sorry, Larry. We all prayed that Our Lord would ease Dan's suffering. He has seen fit to take Dan to be with Him to live eternal life absent of that pain and suffering. We now pray that He will comfort you and your family in this sorrowful time.

Larry,

This is terrible news.  But we never know when our time has come.  While we continue to pray for Dan's family, we are also reminded at this time that we are gifted by our time here and must appreciate every moment and make the most of it.

Condolences to you and your family. It's a horrible thing to lose a loved one, especially such a young guy.
