Hi EGNA, HSHA, and P4 neighbors,

Just a quick note to share that Massachusetts' Crossing Guard Appreciation Day is tomorrow, Wednesday, March 22. For those of you with kids or who pass by Brookline's crossing guards on your morning commutes I hope you'll consider taking a moment to acknowledge and thank them. You can even download a template thank you card from the Massachusetts Safe Routes to School program here

You can also nominate your crossing guard for the Crossing Guard of the Year Award here. Last year's "Crossing Guard Champion" was Hank Hryniewicz, who is stationed at the intersection of Washington, School, and Cypress streets and helps students travel safely to both Pierce and BHS. Nominations are due tomorrow, Wednesday, March 22.

Cheers,
Marissa

Hi, just to let you know that per Marissa's information below, I sent in a nomination for Claire MacPherson, the Pierce crossing guard at Harvard Street and Linden, who has been keeping our kids safe and loved for 30 years.

But more importantly, I want to let folks know that Julie Smith (no relation, who also lives on Linden Street) and I have raised money for a plaque in honor of Claire to be placed on a bench in Linden Park. This is a SECRET, so please don't mention it--and it DOES NOT mean that she's retiring--she's not, as far as we know! There is a slight hold-up because the Parks Dept hasn't yet received their order for new wood for the benches, so we don't know exactly when this will be, though we're hoping for May or June

ALSO, the Parks Dept is planning a big neighborhood party in Linden Park after some work has been done to renovate it, which may be in early June.

I'll let you know about 1) Claire's (PLEASE KEEP IT SECRET) plaque celebration and 2) the Linden Park neighborhood party as soon as I get final word from the Parks Dept as to the wood and their own plans, so we will almost certainly have two parties later this spring!
