Dear Precinct 4 Neighbors,

The Town Clerk has notified Precinct 4 Town Meeting Members that one of us, Karen Ambrose, has resigned (she is moving out of town). 

According to the Town Clerk this is the process:

Vacancies can be filled by a caucus of the remaining members of the precinct. The caucus must be in person. With the November Town Meeting coming up, the Town Clerk would plan to schedule such a caucus for 6:00pm on the first night of Town Meeting (November 19) at the high school auditorium. In order to hold a caucus, 5 of the Town Meeting Members from the precinct must submit a petition requesting a caucus to fill the vacancy. The petition form is attached below. 

The petition must be received by the Town Clerk’s office by noon on November 13 to allow for the legally required notice of the caucus.A quorum must be present to hold the caucus. A vote will be held by secret ballot, and a majority of those voting is needed to elect a new Town Meeting Member.

The new member will be able to begin serving immediately, and will be able to be a full participant in the Town Meeting. The caucused member will serve until the next Annual Town Election.  

A map of P4 is here. Petitions have to be filed in 2 days. 

At the caucus there is a brief time for candidates to introduce themselves but I would encourage prospective candidates to try to contact each P4 TMM to offer an introductory phone call or to write a short email describing their interest in becoming a TMM (cc’d here) and to arrange to get signatures on the petition
