Join us on Tuesday, November 9th as we welcome Karen Washington, lifelong Bronx urban gardener and President of the New York City Community Garden Coalition. Karen will discuss how community gardens can play a vital role in combating food insecurity, promoting healthy diets and providing an untapped source for green jobs. She will also discuss the new rules for community gardens issued out by the Bloomberg Administration. Afterwards - The BxFSC Food Policy Committee will provide policy outcomes from our last meeting and action plan inc. dropping the fingerprinting mandate for food stamps campaign. The 9 bus stops at Southern Blv. and 180th St., the 19 bus stops at 179th and Southern Blvd., The 41 and 40 buses stop at Tremont and Crotona (from the west) or Tremont and Southern Blvd. (from the east) The 5 and 2 trains stop at E. Tremont / W. Farms and you can walk or take the bus along tremont to Southern. The Center is located at 2007 Mapes Ave. at the corner of 178th Street. We are two blocks west of Southern Blvd. and two blocks east of Crotona Ave. If you are on Temont once you get to Mapes go one block north to 178th St. If you are at Southern you can go to 178th and turn west and go two blocks.
