can anyone help with info on how to run my Proshow Gold project on my mac. Spent a long time putting this project on a South American trip together some years ago on Windows and now find I cant run it on Mac. Hate to think I have lost it
I tried searching this forum and the Proshow site but could not find any good answers. I am familiar with Proshow Gold (it is a good slideshow program). My question is to those who upgraded to Producer. Is it worth the price differential which is huge? And what are the features that you use that justifies the upgrade?

MrPhotoBob-I have been totally unimpressed with Nikon Raw files in Pro Show Producer-there is terrible color rendition. Maybe it works better with Canon raw, or is there something I am missing? I have the current version, my monitor is calibrated, etc., nef files are awful. Come to think of it, though, I haven't tried viewing in dng format. I would be interested to hear from anyone else that uses raw in PSProducer.

Gold is going to be just fine for most individuals. It's got great features, and certainly isn't just a dumbed down version of Producer. To the contrary, Gold was around long before Producer was, and Producer really seems to have come about by the concept of adding features which would be most useful to pros. I used Proshow gold to output slide shows on DVD but I find that the slide images is not sharp at all. It is watchable on CRT TV but the images looks blur and washout on monitor. I have seen other DVD slide show outputing outstanding and very sharp quality. I wonder what software they used? Any opinion on this?
ProShow Gold and Producer are great tools for making DVD's for TV. IMHO, they are not optimal for screen savers or PC slide shows. Screensavers made with Axialis, an excellent screen saver program, will be much sharper when viewed on a PC.
That said, there are a couple of things you can do to maximize DVD sharpness. I now use Producer, and I think the same options were for Gold. Anyway, render using high quality for both settings. If you don't have wild motion, rendering with the anti-flicker off will improve sharpness, but if you are using a lot of rapid motion, you will need to turn it on.
When you click on the DVD Disc icon on the toolbar to open the create video window you have several options on the left hand side of that window. The last one is PC Autorun. Click on that icon to open the window that gives you the option of including a PC Autorun show along with your DVD video. This options creates the EXE show to run on a PC and will include it on the same disc as the DVD video show.
Consumer DVD players can be picky about what kind of DVD's they will read. Most Japanese DVD players will read DVD-R (minus R) where a lot of "American Brands" are partial to DVD+R (plus R). Sometimes certain brands of DVD+-R disks are imcompatible with certain players. I've found that DVD-R are usually the safest bet.
Always used DVD+R discs. There is enhanced error correction and more tolerance for alignment problems with the track on the DVD. Avoid DVD-R discs as there are parts of each segment on each block where there is no error correction. Such is not the case with DVD+R.
