FINAL EXAM: Saturday, Dec 11,7:30-10:30

One of the following two proofs willbe on the exam: Theorem 6.1-Cayley's Theorem or Theorem 9.5-Cauchy'stheorem for abelian groups. You should work through these proofs fromthe text, organising them into the main steps, and remember the mainsteps. If you produce a reasonable sketch of the argument, but are notable to fill in the details for the final exam, you will still get mostof the marks. Otherwise, the exam will be very similar to the midterms.

Nov 29: REVISIONS to Homework 6. Theproblems from Chapter 24 will be considered extra credit. You have untilFriday, December 3 to hand them in. Note that this material WILL beconsidered fair game for the final exam.

Oct 11: REVISED midterm 1 date isWednesday, 20 October (just as well, since Tuesday the 18th did notexist). This was agreed to in class last week; sorry for the delayin posting.

MIDTERM 1 will be on Tuesday, 18 October. It will cover chapters 1through 5 of the textbook, and material from chapter 0 that we havecovered. You must KNOW definitions. You do not need to be able to quotemost theorems, but should be able to apply them in problems.
