Hi Messrs Martin Hoffman/Fanie Smuts/John Clokie and Karusha  Moodley

Hope you are all well.

As discussed with most of you at our visit some time ago, we work for a company called Afrovation that is representing Vodacom in the above-mentioned project, which has been approved by City Power and SA Roads Agency aimed at improving the network coverage in the suburbs/townships within the City of Jhb, this includes both areas within residential and commercial properties.

The lamp post will be integrated into the City Power grid and would benefit everyone as it would provide coverage to the main road as there is a lot of complaints regarding limited or no coverage on the road and in the immediate area. We have planned the site on the Mall corner of Hawken Street and President Fouche Drive, Bromhof (See Google shot of proposed position marked Bromhof LP1 attached to PR08 letter) as there is an existing macro site on the building for another operator. We will also be installing an equipment box next to the lamp pole (see attached photos as an example).

The provision of this small site is to provide coverage for voice and data reception and to improve coverage in case of emergencies to vehicular traffic, Businesses  and Residents in the immediate area. Please note that these booster type sites only cover between 400 and 600 metres so it won’t be a macro site. Total height will be lamp pole installation lower than 15m.

We attach copies of the following documentation, namely:-

  • Public Participation letter PR08 for signature and return of the signed scan copy,
  • Notification letter PR04 which was issued to Councillors and Residents by City Power of Johannesburg explaining the Project,
  • The World Health Organization’s (WHO) fact sheet 304 on Base Station and Wireless Technologies,
  • Photos of examples for a typical Lamp post installation,
  • South African Department of Health’s letter on Health effects of Base Stations, and
  • South African Cellular Telecommunications Association’s (SACTA) response to Health and Safety aspects of Mobile Telecommunications.

Once the required signatures is obtained from the Complexes and Businesses, we will submit the signed Public Participation letter for signature by the Ward Councillor Dalu Cele who has been also been notified of this proposed site and are also copied on this mail.

If there is any specific question that you or the Trustees require clarification or information on, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanks and regards
