Dredging the Inlet???

Dear BROKE Allies,

TMX is still alive and kicking.  They want to dredge the bottleneck east of the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge so tankers can fill to 100% instead of 80% with TMX dilbit.

Rueben George of the Tsleil Waututh Nation has gathered faith leaders to help protect the inlet.

I and Tamiko Suzuki of the Vancouver Unitarians Environment Team are inviting all to attend tomorrow at 2 pm at St. Andrew’s Wesley United Church for a multi-faith prayer meeting to Protect the Inlet.

tamiko suzuki <tamiko....@gmail.com>: Feb 19 04:26PM -0800  On Feb 5, the Tsleil Waututh led by Rueben and Charlene George, held a Blanketing ceremony for 21 faith leaders including our own Shawn Gautier. https://photos.app.goo.gl/Gf4EoKDWQEYiFQv18 Rueben talked about the Port Authority's plans to dredge the inlet near Second Narrows Bridge .   On Feb 15 at the Environment Team forum, we shared with the congregation that the proposed dredging is to allow larger ships to pass under the bridge, especially oil tankers that could then be filled to capacity. While this is presented as an economic development, the proposal carries serious environmental risks.   These are the ancestral waters of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation, who continue their work to clean up and protect the inlet. For them, stewardship of these waters, not only for themselves but for all of us, is a sacred responsibility.   As Unitarians, and as settlers, we are called to stand in right relationship. Supporting the Tsleil-Waututh in their efforts is an act of Reconciliation and an expression of our love for Mother Earth and the interconnected web of all life of which we are a part.
