Hi Karl and Broke folk- There seems to be some truths in the video but lots of misinformation by omission. There is the implication that a new pipeline could ship more Canadian oil to Asia and get a better price. What is not said is it is not Canada that is shipping and selling the oil. It is the foreign oil companies operating in Alberta that own the product and get a better price for it offshore. There is always mention of the discount or price differential between Western Canada Select oil and West Texas Intermediate oil and that somehow more pipelines can remedy this. The two products are apples and oranges, WCS is heavy sour and WTI is light sweet and more pipelines will not change that. There will always be a price difference.
I think the technical and structural problems we have in our oil industry are mostly stated in the video. The reason we are in this situation is because we have never had a government strong enough to force a fair deal from the Big Foreign Oil industry that operates in Canada.
Canada is one of the most resource rich countries in the world, why are we not the richest people in the world?
Be well
