Dear VanU Members and Friends,
How would (dread) dredging in the Second Narrows poison Tsleil Waututh efforts at restoring their traditional fishery?
Come to this forum, presented by John Boyle, Tamiko Suzuki, and Karl Perrin this Sunday in the Fireside Room.
Environment Team Forum: Dredging in Burrard Inlet Threatents to Release Contaminants into our Marine Environment Sunday, February 15 at 12:30 pm in the Fireside Room |

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority plans to dredge Burrard Inlet east of the second narrows bridges to allow more fully-loaded ships to sail from the harbour. Notably, the dredging would mean that tankers carrying crude oil (dilbit) from the Westridge Marine Terminal could be filled to 100% capacity instead of the current 80%. The dredging may release contaminated sediments into the marine environment, and the Tsleil-Waututh Nation, whose traditional territory encompasses the inlet, is opposed to it.
At our meeting on January 18th, the VanU Environment Team unanimously passed a motion in support of the Tsleil-Waututh. You can read the full text of the motion here.
Please join us for a forum on the issue on Sunday, February 15th, at 12:30 in the Fireside Room. |
