Hi all

Just wanted to say a big thank you to all the instructors and helpers for a great year.

Special thanks to Mike without whom it would never have been started and to Alex for all the work she has put in.

Emma and Lucy’s sailing has really come on this year thanks to you all.

In the words of young Mr Grace “ you’ve all done very well”

Mark

Having just returned from a very enjoyable wedding reception - not my own - I echo Mark's words that everyone is to be congratulated.

I think we have achieved a great deal during the year, especially starting from a position of:

  • Not knowing how many, if any, kids or volunteers would attend,
  • Having only one safetyboat,
  • Having insufficient equipment.

We now have a hard core of a dozen volunteers, the kit we need, and considerable experience of managing regardless of whatever and whoever comes along. The aim of reaching a position where there was no dependency on any single individual was met a long time ago.

Most gratifying of all is the feedback from the kids - we obviously pleased and retained about 50% of those who attended so far, and that is a serious hit rate with such a fickle group, especially with such an early start. Next year with a more civilised start time I hope we do even better, as word of mouth kicks in.

Mike

Hi Mike

I was up at Pitsford on Sun at end of season instructors event  - a great value for money day out with race tips & sessions and light wind freestyle practise & tutition with some top teachers - and whilst there i spoke to onboard instructors who offered an informal (not same RYA region) race session for onboard groups next season if we want it. Say 3.5m sails, simple course etc. I explained that the T15 was only two so no regional races to date.

Simon,

I suspect you met Graham Colam. We have a standing offer from him - email - grum...@gmail.com, who is RYA East windsurf coach and Team 15 co-ordinator. He will come along at no cost for a half day and help us run various kinds of event.

I never took him up on it, because I felt we were not quite ready. However, next year we will be well out of the beginner phase.

Hi Mike

Yes, that will be the same guy. I did say to him that earlier this year was prob too soon to have done this but next year looked very promising for taking on such an event (& more?).
