Team 15 news. I shall be in Tenerife on 1st March, so if anyone else can attend please feel free.

I hope windsurf@broglake works for Sam and Emma.

I have unsubscribed Tony from the Brogadoons Google group.

Hi guys...

I'm writing to update you of a few changes which have taken place over the autumn/winter months in the Eastern Region with regards to Team15.

Firstly, I would like to thank Graham Colam for all his hard work and enthusiasm over the last few years in the role of Team15 Competition Organiser (T15 CO), heading up the Team15 inter-club scene in the East Zone. Graham has now stood down from this post and we have a new Team15 Competition Organiser for 2012.

I would therefore like to introduce Anna Bird, who will be the new Team15 Competition Organiser for the East Zone.
Anna came up through the youth racing programme herself (pre-Team15 days) and is a Zone Squad Coach and Windsurfing Instructor.

With the above changes, we have used the opportunity to review Team15 in the East Zone.
We have discussed a new format for the inter-club events and looked at ways we can better support individual clubs.
Both of these initiatives will help Team15 clubs, sailors and coaches develop, whilst helping parents understand the programme better and where it could lead.

Whilst Anna will head up the inter-club events in her role as T15 CO, and will contact you in this capacity, Philip Winfield will remain in his post as RYA Eastern Region Club Coach and will be the main liaison point for all Team15 clubs, windsurfing & sailing clubs, and training centres regarding regional windsurfing activities.

Philip has already set up an early season meeting for all Team15 clubs in the region, and has contacted you previously with regard to this.
The meeting is scheduled for the evening of 1 March 2012 (venue to be confirmed soon).
This meeting will provide an ideal opportunity to meet with Anna and Philip and to learn about the plans in store for the 2012 Team15 season, both at club level and inter-club level, along with some exciting club incentives!

We really hope that your Team15 coaches and key personnel can make the above meeting, and would ask you to respond to Philip Winfield to acknowledge attendance.
Philip will follow-up in due course with specifics about the 1 March meeting and Anna will no doubt be contacting you to introduce herself properly and start discussions regarding inter-club venues and dates.

We wish you a really good season and look forward to seeing more teams and bigger teams at the 2012 T15 inter-club events.

Kind regards
Gillian

Hi Mike

That sounds like a good place to be (Tenerife).  I’m not sure if I’ll be about, but if I am and it’s reasonably local, count me in.

Best regards

Barry

Hiya
I will be in France from Mid Feb to Mid April, so can't go. But it would be
great if a couple of people could go. I was at a funding workshop this
evening with Robbie Bell who said that he/the RYA was going to offer an
inducement to clubs to attend - free training to be held at club's home
lakes. Barry? Simon?

So far it looks like Simon and hopefully Emma should attend.

I just received an email from Philip Winfield saying that it is about more than T15 and includes club development. The one I attended last year was very informative about what works for different clubs, and we were far more successful with T15 and getting grants than anyone else. The latter was because companies limited by shares are not eligible for most grants. The RYA is now encouraging clubs to have a dual formation like that at Brog.

If I'm about, I will be happy to go.... I may be in Taunton (not France or
the Middle East but it's a living!)

I do think we should have some clear and agree points for whoever goes as
the Team 15 program aims are very clear (to date). i.e. I believe it's
important that whoever goes, represents the views and aims of the Brog Youth
Program, else we'll get committed to things that we can't deliver and that
would have a hugely negative effect on the volunteering that is currently in
place.

I had a conversation with Philip Winfield before Christmas where he clearly
did not understand that :

* The majority of our OB / T15 kids don't own their own boards and
don't come from dinghy sailing families. (or windsurfing)

* The parents general level of true commitment (with the exception of
Mark)
is bringing kids to the lake and eating bacon rolls. A couple of
other
parents do assist from time to time, but not week after week.

* There is not a queue of parents with huge bank accounts and roof
racks.

* Brogborough hire boards cannot leave the shores of Brogborough.

* Producing the next Olympic champion is not on our radar...
producing the next John Skye might be... after all, Brog did
produce the last one.

So, what do we want whoever goes as our representative to project as the
voice of the Brog Youth programme ?

I know Sam and Emma are thinking of hosting a Student Windsurfing weekend in
the summer... (Great idea) Might hosting a T15 weekend be an option ?

Do we want to get into T15 racing at all ?

How much do we have to smalm to ensure we get whatever is going ?

Our key possible members to be part of this would be Michael, Daniel, Emma,
Dale, Ayush, Kaylon and Gemma. Are THEY committed to / interested in T15
racing ?

Having someone go, wear the blazer but not talk the correct talk would be
negative... Discussion time !

I'd particularly hope to hear from Mark C, Alex and Annette on this as
anything agreed to is going to have a major effect.

Cheers
Barry

Barry,

We had this discussion last year, and that was the message I delivered.

The other clubs also tell Philip very much the same. T15 always depends on parents with deep pockets. His role in the RYA is to believe things may change.

What the attendees must ask fo ris the new T15 'Spider diagram' that shows all of the T15 benefits and activities with inter-club racing as only one of a dozen reasons for it.

We should not give all the tricks away... it will come back and bite us... and spreads the grant money thinner...

We may have had the discussion last year, (though I don’t recall a policy discussion prior to a meeting last year) but you (Mike S) are not attending this year and those that do attend, may not be aware of the views of the majority.  Thus you having a clear picture will not help.

Emma for example, certainly was not part of that discussion... has never attended one of our sessions or even met several of the volunteers, so whilst I truly think it’s excellent for Emma to get involved, (applause!) she needs to be primed by those who make it happen as to what is possible and what won’t happen.... or she will look very silly.  That is not a fair position to put her into.

I would suggest that at the very least, Emma, Alex, Annette and Simon get together before this date.  Alex does most of the organisation and is the key point of contact for parents and Annette and Simon are very key to the enthusiasm amongst the 12-16 year olds...

We do not have to brown-nose to the RYA. Without RYA Training Centre recognition there would be no OnBoard or T15 at Brog and no AALA approval. Without RYA funding or subsidies for all the courses we would not have the number of Start and Senior Instructors that we have. There is no requirement to go to any T15 inter-club events. In addition, the RYA provides a free legal team that will represent us in the event of a serious accident, council, landlord, lease or angler disputes or litigation.

These T15 meetings are not combat zones. I repeat - other clubs at the meeting last year had very similar views to those you keep repeating - ad nauseum.

I can't be bothered with the endless repetition every time we discuss the RYA, and have better things to do.

Therefore I resign as the Brogborough RYA Co-ordinator and interface.

This requires that the committee or Sam and Emma, depending on how they want to run things, need to appoint a new named T15 co-ordinator and notify the RYA. I suggest that a committee member would be better than a non-committee member - perhaps one with a lot to say.

Whosoever attends the T15 meeting needs to be an RYA member/instructor or Club owner/manager.

The 2010/11 development plan is attached. The new co-ordinator will need to keep it updated to apply for grants. Perhaps the committee should now do this.
