Welcome to Sticky Notes! We're still the best way to write quick notes on your Windows desktop, but now you can also take your sticky notes with you, allowing you to capture, find, and use your notes across apps and your favorite devices.
Change the light or dark color mode for easier reading. The color mode changes the background and font colors of the note and the note list to either light or dark, but not the note header. From the list of notes, click or tap Settings, and then under Color, change the color mode to either light, dark, or set to match your current Windows mode.
On the Microsoft Launcher You can also quickly access your sticky notes without OneNote if you're using Microsoft Launcher as a custom Home screen for your Android phone. From the Launcher Home screen, slide from the left edge to see your feed, then flick down and tap Customize feed to add cards. Flick down again and turn on Sticky Notes to add to your feed.
Short answer, if you want this feature soon is that you can use the external editor feature of Joplin to view multiple notes in different windows. You can find info about this feature on this forum or on the Joplin website.
But when you want to see two notes simultaneously, you need Joplin window + one other window. External editor is the current solution, but built-in functionality would be welcome, at least from my perspective.
I use EverNote to manage my "how tos" and so on for work, and I use spaces on the Mac to divide up my work. Not being able to have multiple notes open means I can't multitask, and, not being able to have multiple windows means I have to keep moving Joplin from space to space.
I too would love to have this feature. Editing notes side by side, making comparisons between notes, copying and pasting certain pieces.. and I also find it useful if I'm recording or delivering a talk live on Zoom etc to have a small window with speaking notes I can scroll right up the top of my screen near my camera. It's my trick for looking like I'm talking to the camera but actually referring to my speaker's notes I used Evernote for this fairly regularly.. I miss that in Joplin.
I suppose in the meantime I can continue to just use Evernote for some things, but I like the idea of Joplin being able to replace my reliance on Evernote completely.. so if we can have this feature in future it would be most welcome.
Thanks!
The primary problem is that when I click on a notebook, including All Notes, in my Windows 10 Desktop app, the notes don't display and I can't view or edit them. I can see all the notebooks, but not the notes within them. The notes sync, and I am able to use the web and android apps but not the desktop app. I have tried:
I'm having the same issue - in the windows app I can find and click on any note and the preview of the note shows up in the note list, but when I click on the note the contents won't appear (it's just a blank screen). Closing and reopening the app doesn't solve the issue; the only fix I've found is restarting my computer. My app is up to date, although I first noticed this issue when the new version of the app was released. I would guess it occurs every 2-3 days. Any suggestions?
I have Evernote on a laptop, desktop, and Android phone. The desktop and Android are fine, but the laptop has started displaying a version of this symptom of blank notes, not blank on other devices or in preview. One of the suggestions I saw elsewhere on the forum was to do a sync, but if you see the images below, there is no sync button on the laptop. I have also noticed that the About, Check for Update, and Release Notes windows are also blank on the laptop. I think everything was normal Friday night, but then like this Saturday morning. The difference in screen layout is puzzling.
F11 DOES NOT WORK to FIX THIS F'NG Problem. So frustrating. I'm telling everyone not to use this app. It only works on your phone. It constantly crashes on the desktop. It will NOT show your notes and this is NOT a new problem.
After reading this thread, it is very disappointing to see that this show-stopper failure has been reported way back in Aug 2020; but is still no resolved in July 2022. The suggestion of hitting the F-11 key is ineffective in bringing back the missing notes.
So the problem you're experiencing may have a more localized solution. Have you tried logging out and back in? What exactly is happening--sidebar and notes list appear, but when a note is selected it doesn't show in the editing window, correct? Does it happen with all notes all the time, or with certain notes consistently, or with random notes on random occasions? What happens if you double-click a note to open it in a separate window?
Web access seems to be fine, but the app is not functioning. I'm running 10.58.3. I have logged off and restarted, uninstalled/reinstalled and attempted other solutions provided in this thread. Still, no joy. I'm running Windows 10. The sidebar is greyed out and when I open a note by double-clicking, it pops up blank. On a random sample, this is happening with all notes accessed through the app. The installed version appears to be current; I don't see an update button on the app. The app has not updated all notes either.
Still, having a go based on your information: When you say the sidebar is grayed out, you mean that none of the items there is functioning (Notes, Shortcuts, Notebooks, etc.)? What view are you in when double-clicking a note pops it up blank---all notes, a search result, a particular notebook or tag...? When you say the app hasn't updated all notes, that means that there are updates made to notes in the Web client that don't appear in the desktop app?
V. 10.58.3 is AFAIK the latest version of the app. It was released in order to deal with a variety of issues that appeared after the change to the sync structure of notes, one of which was long delays in note contents appearing after being clicked. So, just to be sure, if you click on one of the affected notes, it never appears, even if you wait for several minutes (it should never take that long, just trying to cover all bases)?
So my main system failed me on Christmas ironically. Anyways, I am certain its the motherboard, which means I need to change the motherboard and it won't boot into windows because of a hardware change most likely. So I plugged in my ssd into a hard drive dock and got the ssd to show on my other system. I got everything off of the ssd onto another drive, except I can't find where my sticky note file is. I looked online and online said it would be either in appdata/Microsoft/roaming or it would be in the packages folder. I did find where it has the name of sticky notes but my file isn't there. So the 2 locations they said online didn't have my sticky notes. I really need it. I tried calling up Microsoft support and this was to advance for them as they were not trained in data apparently. I also seen this thread:
So I figured out my own problem as a you tube video showed the answer. So to get back your sticky note from a drive, go to C:Users\your name\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Microsoftstickynotes\LocalState
I would like to open Sticky notes without having to navigate to the location. In my research, I found that in Windows 7, users were able to type 'stikynot' in the run prompt. What is the equivalent of the prior information for Windows 10?
Notezilla is a venerable (been going over 20 years) commercial sticky notes program that I have been using for a long time. The latest version introduces the option of using a markdown editor instead of the rich text one (can switch between them), which is a game changer for using it as a front end for Obsidian.
Quick notes
With sync enabled, notes are synchronised across all devices which means that it works as a good way of writing quick notes whatever device I am on. On Windows PCs I export as markdown (into .txt files) into my Obsidian inbox (or other folders when desired). Single keypress to create new note. Mobile widgets make it easy to see content of chosen notes or a defined set of first lines (I usually have recent notes).
You can import a text file as a single note into Stickies or export a note from Stickies as a text file. You can also export all your notes from the Stickies app and import them into the Notes app, where you can write and organize notes in a single window and see your notes on all your Apple devices.
I am not sure if this is the right place for this issue. But let's see
Since we generated our master image of Win10-20H2 we have the following issue on our VMware instant clone pool.
If a user clicks on the windows store sticky notes app, it doesn't start correctly.
There is only a window in the taskbar with a running cycle inside but I am not able to add a new note.
If I close the process/windows and open the sticky notes again. It works!
I also reset my UEM profile but same issue happens everytime again. First start after logon to the instant clone the sticky notes don't start correctly.
Sticky Notes version is: 4.1.6.0
You could create a simple "sticky note" webform that you can have bookmarked on your desktop, mobile device, etc., to add new notes or tasks. You can decide if new entries go to the top or bottom of sheet. When you go to the sheet, you will be able to see your "sticky note" row, comments, checkboxes, etc....You can simply delete the row when you no longer need the note.
