Back in school talk of motorbike was rife although I had no interest in
them and my mom certainly would never have allowed me to have one. Lucky
friends knew people with a BSA Bantam or Triumph Tiger Cub. But some
names were hallowed even if never seen, like Vincent 1000 and
Bonneville. This was at the Thwaites Mill gathering in 2011.

Hi All

Before I was 17 I longed for a motorbike, my older brother had a Honda and it was the days of Mike Hailwaood who rode for MV Augusta and then Honda.  By the time my 17th birthday arrived two friends had been killed on bikes and I decided to stick to 4 wheels and this my first vehilce was a 400E Ford Thames 12 seater bus...

My cousin has been riding big bikes for 12 years she is a MOD Guard but recently was knocked off her bike by a driver on the M25 and it was very much touch and go. She broke her pelvis near the femeral artery so we are blessed to still have her with us, she is looking at a 5 month recovery.

Whether you ride a 50cc buzzing bee or a superbike if you drop it or are knocked off, odds on you are going to do yourself serious harm. Modern cars are much safer these days

So yes like you John I remember the old bike names but  in truth am glad I went straight to 4 wheels

Happy New Year To One and All
