This is the most difficult part I find, talking about yourself. Well
I'm Dave, a mechanical engineer by trade I used to design and
construct cutaway and animated exhibits for motorshows etc, cars
hanging from the ceilings, engines that work electrically, all manor
of weird and wonderful things. I've experience of hydraulics,
electrics, steam and air systems as well as mechanical engineering.
However, due to the onset of Arthritis and Spondylitis I find myself
no longer able to do these things, so I am retraining myself. I've got
my Diploma in CSS, Web Design, Flash animations and now I'm part way
through my Java course and then VB. A dirty word, perhaps in a Java
room. Hopefully then freelance programmer and web designer.
My connections with Bristol, well my mother's family come from Filton,
my two Aunts live in Winterbourne and I live just above Gloucester
beside the River Severn. I am looking forward to seeing and chatting
to you all hopefully within the near future. I am enjoying Java
tremendously, it's not a million miles away from engineering and I can
see where it may be used in projects that I have done previously, in
particular engine management programs, where I have helped in setting
up truck for testing.
I hope to see you and chat to you soon - Dave

Hi Dave.

Welcome to the group. We will forgive the VB reference this time :)
There is actually quite a lot of crossover with C# and java if you do
want to go down the MS route.

Feel free to post any questions and I'll let you know when we next
arrange a meeting.
