Hi All,

Good meeting last night.

Apologies for my lack of interaction, but I had no more battery juice left :(

Note to the organisers: more power sockets! :)

Unfortunately, since I live in Aberdeen, I won't probably make it to the next meetup, however I'll try to time my visits to coincide with future meetings.

I should've offered last night, but if anybody is interested, I could help organise a session on the two following topics:

  * FP for newcomers: we could work on the classic FizzBuzz kata using nothing but functions as the primitive building block. If there's time we could extend the constructs to build hash-tables, etc. I did a preliminary version of this (incomplete) in case you're interested: https://github.com/ulises/churchbuzz - this is based/adapted from an old blog post on solving the exact same problem, but in Ruby and using processes (http://codon.com/programming-with-nothing)

  * As part of the data science theme: basic machine learning algorithms from scratch, such as nearest neighbours, swarm algorithms, clustering with self organising networks, etc. Again, some preliminary code to wet your appetite: https://github.com/ulises/ml-toys

Cheers!

Thanks Ulises, I'll try to bring an extension lead or something next time!

I really like the idea of learning how to do things from scratch, or with the bare minimum of tools from the language. ML stuff would also be cool (I studied a bit of swarm intelligence stuff myself in Uni). When would you be free to organise a session?

Alternatively I'll come with a fully charged battery ^_^

I'm sorting out dates for my next visit to Bristol as we speak, so I'll know more next week. I have seen though that you're settling for the 3rd Tue of the month as a set date? (I'll try to sync with that week.)

I'll be down in Bristol next week (Tue/Web/Thu) if anybody wants to get together for some clojure talk. Not sure it's worth a full on clojurians meeting?

I might be able to come and talk Clojure on Thursday, but I’m not sure. Too bad you’re not here next week for the meeting!
