Starter bad.. how do u remove..1977 westerbeke 40-108

Starter wenr bad and I don tseem to have clearance to pull it out. Top mounting bolt to housing is off. Bottom bolt is s nut on a stud. Stud length seems to not allow removing starter... Thinking I may have to remove stud...

Charlie,

 

Do you have the keel/centerboard arrangement? The reason I’m asking is that with my boat, the centerboard conduit was blocking me from removing the starter. I ended up cutting the conduit up by the centerboard winch. Then, I could bend it out of the way to remove the starter.
