Bilge pumps

Saw an earlier post re: pumps. Wanted to ask how those of you with the Grand Canyon of bilges get your pumps down and then remove to inspect, clean etc. 

PO hung the pump on this:

Works well but painful to install or remove. My Rule bilge pumps (2 so far) have burned out with that tiny bit of water that remains and boat rocks in waves, the pump cycle repeatedly. 

Lastly do you run the secondary pump thru the same hose (with the proviso that secondary is placed higher).

Hi Rob I have the primary and secondary on their own hose but they come together at a Y just before the seacock at the stern. Also they are mounted ( with their own switch) each to a separate pole which I can remove from the bilge with one screw and wing nut for inspection.

Hi Rob,

I use two pumps mounted on a double L-shaped stand. The bottom pump is a smaller unit, around 1200 GPH, with the float attached directly to it. I position the float behind the pump so that moving water doesn't trigger it unnecessarily. I also use a high-quality no-siphon hose for this setup.

In addition to the electric pumps, I have a Whale hand pump which effectively removes most of the remaining water. All of these are on separate hoses, though they share the same thru-hull at the stern.
