Hive mind: I have a Bristol 34 with Atomic 4. The prop will turn in reverse but when I engage forward the engine revs as if in neutral and prop does not turn. Nothing in the shaft and prop looks good.

What is my issue or next trouble shooting step?

Thanks for any assist.

David

Check the coupling(s) and propeller shaft which connects the Transmission to the propeller.

Check the Transmission - is it turning in both directions.

Problem might also be in the switching mechanism, check the lever or button and cable connections.cable

Interesting. My 40 has a very similar problem. I just had the transmission rebuilt thinking that it was the problem. Sounds like the prop is cavitating except its not. Engine just suddenly revs while under load, but only after about an hour of study operation. Still doing it following the rebuild.

Good question. Came attached to the Westerbeke 40.

I'm dealing with a similar issue in a Paragon Sao gear on a Pearson 35. I had an interest in Bristol 's and joined the list.
My gear I feel had wrong fluid and maybe clutch disc's (sintered bronze) worn. See attached post.

I am going to remove the shaft from the coupling and see how the shaft turns.  See attached video link and watch all the way through.  Something is binding on something!
