Champadauthored over twenty books and had a diverse career that included roles as a circus manager, flying trapeze artist, and PRO in various circus companies. His contributions to literature were honoured with the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 2014.
In cinema, he was the storyteller for G Aravindan's acclaimed film 'Thambu' and screenwriter for KG George's movie 'Mela'. He also worked on films such as 'Aaravam', 'Kummatty', 'Joker', 'Apoorvasahodarangal', and 'Bhoomimalayalam'.
Champad was also the author of 'An Album of Indian Big Tops', a comprehensive work detailing the history of the circus. Alongside his literary pursuits, he served as the chief editor of the 'Padayani' weekly from Thalassery and worked as a correspondent for 'Kaumudi' for five years.
His literary career began in 1964 with the publication of his first story, 'Ring Boy', in the 'Mathrubhumi' weekly. His rich experiences in the circus industry influenced many of the finest circus-themed movies in Malayalam cinema.
Director Dharmesh Darshan in an exclusive interview to Bollywood Hungama spoke about his film Mela that starred Aamir Khan, Twitter Khanna and Faisal Khan. Darshan expressed his displeasure with Twinkle Khanna who according to him unfairly mocked Mela at an episode of Koffee With Karan recently.
