I naively failed to install open-vm-tools-desktop. I say naively because I had no idea such a thing existed, nor do I understand why instructions to install open-vm-tools do not (or at least where I read them, do not) include mentions of this package.

If your VM already came with VMware Tools pre-installed, but this still isn't working for you--or if you install and still no luck--make sure you run Workstation or Player as Administrator. That fixed the issue for me.

Now to work with your vm 1. You open mremote2. You go to tools => external tools3. You click the startmyvms toolwhen you're done 1. You go to tools => external tools2. You click the stopmyvms external tool

Are you talking about drag and drop, when you say copy and paste? If yes, you can also use Rightclick on object on your main computer and click copy. And then you go into the Virtual Machine and Rightclick the position where you want the file to get copied to.

the mremote option offers more automation and almost replicates the vmware workstation graphical experience plus major benefits: NO DPI (guest resolution) hassle no copy pose hassleAutomation = starting vms and suspending them automaticallyplus more if you look deeper

One thing i've noticed about VCSA 6.5 HA setup's is that most of the HA setups stop working after a while. Some run fine for weeks before trouble starts. Some run fine for months before getting into trouble.

As I can find little information on actual troubleshooting, besides trying stuff like manually starting postgres and other things are like reboots that rarely work, can somebody point me to good sources of information. I cannot find blogs or relevant KB articles. I cannot imagine me, or my customers, being the only ones with these issues though.

I want to learn how to troubleshoot HA issues myself as VMware support is not very helpful. You get some 1-level guy on the phone, that only ever collects logs and the HA setup is down for weeks, ending with the advice to simply destroy the peer and witness nodes and start over. I've become used to doing "destroy-ha" on the active node and starting fresh...

At the moment, I have two separate installations (one was installed 3 months ago, the other is about 7 weeks old) with the exact same problem where vCenter itself works fine, all Nodes are up, but both say "PostgreSQL replication is not in progress. Verify if PostgreSQL server is running on the Passive node and that the Passive node is reachable on the vCenter HA network."

If I go on the commandline of the passive node, I see that only "vmware-statsmonitor, vmware-vcha and vmware-vmon" are running. The service "vmware-vpostgres" is not running and will not start either (service is masked error).

Concrete questions: if, like in the example above, Postgres sync stops working: how to get it back up running again? Same for the other 3 sync-relationships "State, config & sqllite DB". Is there any documentation?

The statement: "Each host should contain a minimum of 32 GB of memory to accommodate for the maximum number of 5 disk groups and maximum number of 7 capacity devices per disk group." pertains to a fully populated configuration per host (5 disk groups with 1 cache & 7 capacity devices each.

2) "vSAN is compatible with more expensive hardware and nutanix only homolog hardwares" - Again not a completely correct statement. There is plenty of affordable hardware is capable of running vSAN well.

But it is never consistent. Sometimes, the "Windows Logon" sound is already crackling. Sometimes it is fine. Sometimes it is only the "Windows Logoff" sound that crackles. Sometimes both crackles sometimes neither crackles.

I am new to vmware coming from a long relationship with microsoft virtual PC. I used workstation pro to convert a microsoft VM and it was created as a single file. I then used workstation pro to create a vista guest from my physical vista laptop and it was created as multi file. Is there any advantage of one over the other? If so would it be advisable to convert the multi file VM to a single file VM? The vista guest will have much more I/O activity along with adding and deleting files.
