I just got seduced by one of those swanky hi-res camera phones after years
of mobile ludditeness. It appears that the software that comes with it
doesn't support Mac, so how do I download the photos to my Mac? I don't know
whether I have bluetooth or infra red on my desktop computer - I suspect not
- it's a dual processor 450MHz G4 (a few years old). So what do I do???

Thanks

If you don't have Bluetooth or IR, then you could perhaps get a USB
card reader that supports Sony Memory Stick format. Take photos and
make sure they are stored on the memory stick. Remove memory stick,
insert into card reader and plug into Mac. Stick will appear on the
Desktop as a drive... Or, if you have iPhoto, you may find it
launches and recognizes the memory stick as coming from a camera.

If the k750i has a USB connector, you could try just plugging it into
the mac to "see what happens". Again, you may find iPhoto just sees
it as a camera.

Buy a bluetooth USB dongle; something like the DLink DBT-120 (it's OS
X compatible).

Then you'll be able to send your photos from the camera via bluetooth.

Hi Rebekah,

you'll need to get a Bluetooth adapter for your mac. I recently
bought a Belkin one for about £20 at Argos
and it is doing the job just fine.

http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?
storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=3151&productId=129946&clickfrom=name

You'll be able to transfer files to/from your mobile and also sync
your address book/calender etc.

There is no need for drivers - as it is all plug'n'play.

Enjoy your new phone,

Seb

I plugged the phone into the computer via the USB cable and downloaded some
photos, just like that. While I was at it I copied some mp3s over to the
phone. I now have a super cool broken beat ringtone. For someone whose last
phone cost £20 I am really impressed! Isn't technology amazing?

Thanks for peoples help. I guess I will have to get the dongle thing for
downloading contacts to my Mac etc though.

I think i've got one those (only got it yesterday as a free upgrade
and haven't bothered to read anything yet) you can get a bluetooth
dongle i should imagine or, according to the register review you can
plug it in with supplied usb cable and it will be recognised as an
external drive.

You need to get yourself a bluetooth dongle. Tiger is sweet when
connecting up to mobiles. You can browse the device(phone) and get
images from the phone and put images on there. Dongles are pretty cheap
online.

It seems I don't need a bluetooth dongle - I can do everything via USB.
Where do I get insync from? I searched for it on the Mac website and
couldn't find it.

Bluetooth is nice - if only as it is one less cable to have to faf with.

Anyway, I'm considering a new phone - I want to make sure my contacts
will sync up - not just one name one number but several numbers per
name, plus an email and postal address - can it do that?

Being able to send SMS from Address Book is another nice feature but
not quite so important, likewise a reasonable match with iCal.

Have you found any limitations using the K750i?

I've also looked at the Nokia 6230i but heard it isn't well supported
on Mac.

In my experience I found compatibility with nokias and macs is not that
good. I've got the k700i and that does everything you've discussed apart
from the postal address which most sony ericssons seem to be lacking. I
am thinking about getting a p910i but they are a bit on the old side now.
I've got my ipod and a decent digital camera I just want a really small
phone with good battery life and decent compatibilty with mac. Has
anyone got the new blackberry and is it mac compatible?

OK, I managed to upgrade my OS to Tiger so that I could use isync 2.1,
downloaded the isync updater and it still doesn't recognise the bloody
phone! It says it's supported on the Apple site. I have done the most
intuitive thing - plugged the phone in to the USB port and opened isync.
Anyone else got the combination of a Sony Ericsson K750i and a Mac?

rebeKah

PS The phone is blinding in every other way, takes photos in low light
without a flash which is something I have always wanted - I hate flashes.
The photo quality is as good as my old Canon Ixus. Plus it has macro and
zoom. Apparently you can make phone calls with it too!

Have you tried it using the bluetooth connection? Both my SE t610 and
s600 connected first time using bluetooth no probs.

I don't know about your problem but I thought I should congratulate you on conducting that post without a single swear word, I would have been dropping them like smarties had I just gone through that same string of events leading to that same outcome.

Aside from the bum result, what are your thoughts on the upgrade? Is it worth shelling out for? I have considered it out of curiosity but haven't investigated the pros v cons. Is it even easy installing an OS on these things?

Cheers

Phone calls? You mean you can actually talk to someone and here their
voice in a remote spot, what will they think of next? I sense the death
of the archaic method known as texting now we can actually hear one
another and have all the nuances of aural conversation.

Anyway, doesn't the K750i have bluetooth as you can sync over that. Just
turn bluetooth on , on both phone and Mac, then on the mac search for
the device and it should spring up with the option to sync.

No, I'm still waiting until Orange offer me a freebie. And for you to
say everything works perfectly ;-)

Also someone has got fed up with Apple's er, outrageously optimistic
list of iSync'able phones and just started:
http://www.cgwerks.com/whatsyncs/ Not much listed yet though.

Hi all,

Got a friend in the UK who is having trouble with their email

All the copies of Outlook (on 6 pcs) are showing the same message when
trying to look in any folder (or in inbox)

"Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Outlook could not access the
specified folder location. Item could not be found."

They are all connected up to a MS exchange server - it seems the client
computers can not connect to this anymore to get the .pst files?

Thanks

Firstly, if you're on exchange, then you've transcended using PST files,
everything is stored on the server. Has the server changed at all lately?
Is everything running correctly? Network issues?

Try a reboot of the server.

Can you try creating a new logon under a new profile and see what that turns up?

Is the exchange server under their control? If so, what changes have occured recently? It's unlikely to be a client side issue (doing the above will prove that) so something must have happened on the exchange server to make this happen.

Hi Tim/Wayne

Thanks for the pointers. Yes when it comes to Exchange I am a bit lost.

They have tried a reboot of the server, that didn't help. Heh - that was
my first suggestion. They say they have done nothing new to the server.

This is basically one of those ridiculous Dell related situations where
they have installed an exchange server/network set up in the office with
no one there who can possible look after it. Lovely guys but they have
trouble setting up an account in Outlook let alone seeing if their
server is patched and working properly.

Being over here in Russia there isn't much I can do to help them and
this is sounding like it needs someone there in front of the machine. If
people want to send me an email off list with your rates for going up to
London to sort this out, I'll pass them on.

OK, whats the size of the STM file ? If it is not being looked after and monitored properly this file may well have exceeded the 16GB limit imposed on Exchange standard edition (which I suspect your friend has). If this is the case you need to do an online defrag of the streaming media files. This will release enough space for it to fire up again and then they can remove enough old mail manually to get it stable again.

If this is the case and they do need to do this they need to bare in mind that they will probably only get one shot and they will need to remove the server from the network while they do it so as to not load any more mail onto the server while they are doing it.

A bit of calm research and thought will see them right. I sugest you disconnect it from the network imediately though.

In a similar situation I spent the best part of 24 hours getting it right again but it can be done. Most of that time is waiting for processes to finnish.

You were almost right Wayne - it was a space issue. The hard drive had
just got too full. They have someone in now to replace the drive and all
is working again.

Something I would have had some trouble doing over the telephone...

Thanks a lot for your help

I don't know if it's worth shelling out for, haven't used my computer enough
to tell yet. Installing it is a piece of piss, just a matter of sticking the
DVD in the DVD drive and clicking a few buttons.

Yes, was trying to avoid having to buy a dongle as the phone's manual says
that I can sync using UBS but I guess they're lying (or only thinking about
PC users).

Hi rebeKah

I've just noticed on Apple's site that although syncing with the K750i
is supported, its *only* over bluetooth - I guess that would explain
the problems you've been having with USB.. Looks like only a few
Motorolas can be synced over USB.

The important footnote is right at the very bottom of this page:
http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/devices.html

I'm hoping that when I finally get a new phone it'll sync..
Cheers
