Hi guys - went on the lovely Juggs lane walk over to Lewes yesterday and found a few Elderberries just coming into Lewes. I've been thinking about making some wine recently and Elderberry seems like it might fit the seasonal bill. Any ideas where I might find a good haul of berries around the Brighton area? Probably need about 1.5-2kg for what I'll be making.

Any good tried and tested recipes?

And finally - might need a couple of demijohns - any ideas where I might find something not too expensive. I got one up at the boot fair last Sunday but it's a bit of a lottery to get one from there I think...

Hi James,

I haven't tried this myself, but I've been told that elderberry and blackberry is a great combination. I don't have a recipe though.

When we were looking for Elderflower this year, we found loads in Stanmer park - especially on the way up to Stanmer Organics.

If you want glass demijohns you can usually expect to pay around £7 but you can get plastic ones from the Internet for a couple of quid. eBay also has collections of second hand ones. If you can find a collection for sale in Brighton then it's definitely worth it.

Hopes this helps.
