Hi all,

We have some new members so I thought I'd just send out an email to
remind people how the group works. You send out an email saying,
'does anyone want to go for a forage,' and someone else replies and
says, 'why yes that would be absolutely fabulous!' Don't be shy or
think that you don't really know enough to suggest a forage, just send
out an invite and magic will inevitably follow. Take loads of books
with you and don't eat anything you're not 100% sure of.

The elderflowers are starting to pop so go and buy citric acid before
it sells out all over Brighton. Here's an elderflower champagne
recipe - http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A593363 and here's an
elderflower cordial recipe - http://m.goodfoodchannel.co.uk/recipe/516164/elderflower-cordial/
Anyone else have any recipes to share?

If anyone's interested in homebrewing with wild food then contact me,
I'm trying to find other interested people. I can report that my
birch sap wine is tasting extremely alcoholic and is still
fermenting... Delicious though, a bit like sherry!

Another question, should we have a Facebook page? I'd like to get
more people interested in foraging and Facebook seems to be where it's
at these days...

Haven't done champagne but want to. Next Monday 16th in the evening? I can pick some in stammer on Sunday as I'll be there and then get extra here?

Okay, so the plan is

Sunday 10:30am foraging for elderflowers around Stanmer Park, meeting at the church.

Monday evening demo of first stage of champagne and bottling up led by Beth.

Could you let me know if you are interested in coming on Monday, would be good to know numbers and then I can figure out where we can meet.

Thanks
Hedvig

I am going to have a go at this.  It's a little bit more complicated than other recipes 'cos it's making properly alcoholic champagne...

Hi,
I've just realised that the foraging clashes with the Mackeral Fair on the Seafront, so I'm not going to make it. Hope to see you next time.
Best wishes

There’s a mackerel fair in Brighton?! Amazing! Thanks for the tip-off, Jo.

It's part of the Brighton Festival.
It starts at 1230 on the Fisherman's beach (below the Brighton Centre)
They have a mass, bless the nets and then a Mackeral BBQ.
Best
