Hey all,

I was thinking about going out on a forage soon - for leafy green spring things.  I'm not very good at recognising these, so I thought that this would be a good opportunity to practice. I suggest Sunday 6th March - maybe in the morning.  Would anyone like to join me?

Beth

I've been meaning to send a similar message to the list, so I'm glad you did! I'm definitely up for a forage soon. 6th March would be good.

I have very little knowledge about Spring forageables though.

Chris

Hello one-each-all,

This sounds great to me, in the morning especially.
I think it would be good to look for chickweed because I hear it is out in the West Country, however I'm not sure what it looks like. I found wild garlic in Norfolk a fortnight ago which is delicious. It's a good time of year for fat rooted dandelions so maybe we should bring trowels if we have them. I'm planning to add dandelion leaves to salad this spring because, as my friend in california says "Mo' bitter, mo' better!". If anyone could teach me what Fat Hen looks like I'd really appreciate it, I gathered a whole bag of what I thought might be it, from my friends garden, only to check with another friend and find it was Dog's Mercury!!! Comfrey leaves for fritters and tea. Oh I'm excited to finally come on one of these excursions!

Seems like there are a few of us that want to forage this weekend, but
we haven't set a time and place. Does anyone have a suggestion for
where might be good to forage?

Stanmer is always a good choice...

Hello fellow foragers!

Afraid I can't make the morning but would be keen to meet at 1.40 pm, in front of Stanmer house. (the 78 bus goes there on the hour from the Old Steine, there's a 25 bus as well that goes to the gates of the park). That should give us some decent time before it gets dark.

I will bring my copy of Food for Free but look forward to foraging with more experienced people!

Excited!

Lianna

Great, 1.40pm works better for me too. See you there!

Oh dear, I can't make 1:40. Have a good one. Apologies for being lax on the time suggestion for myself.

Happy foraging

Josh

Hi all

Sorry you couldn't make it Josh. hopefully we'll have another soon. Was good fun - we came back with goosegrass, chickweed, nettles, comfrey, and a few violets. And saw a wild bees nest, though no-one was brave enough to forage there for honey!

Thanks,

Lianna
