place IDs changing/merging

I think that there are some place hiding going on. Some places that
used to be searchable are not showing up, presumably because you guys
have deemed that they are duplicates? For instance the place "Apple
Inc" had both uids: e877429b40f23258e42fd7e70758db63 and
5ae5697dc7864cb5d3b475148450bb1139f95de7

Is there a way to know from the API if the old place is a duplicate if
this is indeed going on? (besides it's absence in the search?) These
places had slightly different geocodes and still have different
content:
