Grand Thieft Auto San Andreas
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle []).push();The most epic game in series by amount of gameplay features. Quality difference is much bigger than between GTA Vice City and GTA 3, so modding of graphics have reason. First version of ENBSeries was developed for this game 3 december 2007 and had SSAO with SSIL only. Game is very popular for modding and even now many peoples playing multiplayer version of it (SA-MP). I like GTA Vice City much more, because it's more "romantic" and atmospheric for me, but GTA San Andreas is more rude.

Different versions of the mod have own visual look, latest have not finished reflective bump (dudv environment bump mapping) for rainy weather in the very old versions of the mod and these days it's not much usable, when latest versions allow to make many more effects in the external shaders.
Some mods working improperly with SAMP, because several functions are hooked by SAMP and not return proper result to ENBSeries. Also some servers replace shaders, so if you have issues with vehicles, they are invisible or look weird, that's must be the reason. Same about water, reported as problem several times as well.

You may see comparison screenshots from this mod and vanilla game in the gallery or on the gtaforums.com web site or youtube. Of course everything can be modified by yourself. There are some popular presets made by players, i recommend to use them, just take the latest d3d9.dll from my mod and shaders from their works.

This will cover general PlayStation 2 to PC differences, that were present in the first version. See below for differences between revisions of the PS2 version, and patches of the Retail and Steam PC versions.

Version 2 of the PS2 release was revised in wake of the Hot Coffee controversy, dated July 2005. This revision is included in Second Edition, Greatest Hits/Platinum, and Trilogy copies, and a modified version is used as the basis of the Japanese revisions. Along with the removal of the hot minigame's assets from the files, there were also some bug fixes and script changes which would make it into later ports:

Version "2.0" of the game is effectively just a retail release of v1.01 in pretty much every way, except the version number on the main menu will say v2.00 instead of v1.01. It does, however, also make modding effectively impossible as it will check the size of the gta3.img file, and if the sizes don't match up byte-to-byte, it will cause the game to crash (coincidentally, all Hot Coffee assets were removed with this release). Also, saves from previous versions are incompatible. Good update.

The Steam release, also known as v3.0 according to the menu, is a very interesting story indeed. Firstly, the fact that it even calls itself v3 of the game is very misleading, as it has almost none of the additions from the retail release patches (apart from the .img check/lack of modding, the removal of Hot Coffee assets and the exploded cars fix for some reason). Rather, it's evidently based on the Xbox version of the game on account of some Xbox-exclusive quirks such as smaller subtitles/radio headers and a similar save menu. It also has its own slew of unique bugs...and fixes.

Rockstar released another update one month later, known as the newsteam r2 update. Not much was changed with this except that 16:9 resolutions were finally added in...but bizarrely, the vertical ratio has been shrunken slightly, meaning everyone and everything looks subtly more squished than they did before.

An iOS port of the game was released on December 12, 2013, an Android port released on December 19, 2013, and a Windows UWP port released in 2014 by War Drum Studios (later known as Grove Street Games). These ports contain a fair amount of differences.

A number of tracks were removed, presumably due to expired licensing deals. However, upon the removal of these songs, the radio could suddenly rewind, fast forward, or skip the song randomly. This is more common on the Xbox 360 version.

In the Android and UWP versions, you can use a Bluetooth keyboard or gamepad to enter cheat codes. However, this doesn't work in the iOS version for some reason. This port adds more cheat codes in the game that only keyboards and/or modifying the game can enter.

On October 26, 2014, the original Xbox 360 emulated version was replaced with a "remastered" version built off the mobile port; this version also replaced the PS3 emulated version on December 1, 2015, although the version released on PS4 uses the emulated PS2 original as a base until it got delisted on October 11, 2021, in favor of the definitive edition. Despite being considered a "remastered" version by Rockstar, this has several issues not present in the original or mobile releases.

Version 1.01 is the only official "patch" released for the PC version of the game, and will only patch an original, unmodified version 1.00 executable. This patch contains a number of bug fixes and additions. According to Rockstar Games these are:

Version 2 has the same bug fixes and additions that were introduced in the 1.01 patch. It also checks the size of the 'gta3.img' file, which causes the game to crash if the size is not equal to a predetermined (hardcoded) size. Save files created with a version 1.0 or 1.01 game are not compatible with a 2.00 or later game.

Interestingly, the original Steam release, marked as version 3.0, is not based on 1.01 nor 2.0 versions, and therefore does not contain most of 1.01 fixes. Instead, it seems to be based on Xbox version of the game and therefore contains Xbox-specific UI changes, such as smaller subtitles, smaller radio station name and different save menu screen, similar to the ones from console versions.

In November 7th 2014, Rockstar updated the Steam version, addressing music licensing issues and therefore removing several songs from the game. Additionally, this version of the game game does not support DirectInput pads, and it's been migrated to XInput instead. 5:4 resolutions are also now blacklisted. This version does not have any version number displayed in menus, and therefore has been dubbed newsteam (later newsteam r1) by the community.

In December 9th 2014, Rockstar updated the Steam version again. The only change included in this version are unlocked 16:9 resolutions. This version does not have any version number displayed in menus, and therefore has been dubbed newsteam r2 by the community.

Versions 1.0 and newsteam are "unmarked" versions of the game. From the 1.01 patch onward, the version number is displayed on the lower right corner of the main menu when you first start the game. The retail versions of the game have "Second Edition" printed along the bottom of the front side of the box.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas may be one of the series' high points, but changes made to the game's Japanese version nearly wrecked the game for Japan's players. Although the core gameplay is still there, there are several tweaks that make things more frustrating or obtuse, making the Japanese version of San Andreas harder, but not exactly for the right reasons.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is one of the series' most well-regarded games, even long after release. However, fitting GTA tradition, it is filled with mature content. Violence, drug references, and sexual elements are all present in the game, making it earn its M rating honestly. The series is no stranger to bad press, as the uproar over Grand Theft Auto's Hot Coffee controversy shows, so it's no surprise that several aspects of the game were edited or censored when the game came to Japan. This led to a game that, while still resembling the San Andreas most fans know, has some serious changes that affect the game's quality.

Some of these changes are obvious, while others may take more time to notice. However, what is clear is that the version of San Andreas that made it to Japan is altogether different from the version that fans in other territories are familiar with. Some of these changes are understandable, if a bit awkward, but some lead to serious problems for players in the original PS2 release.

There is a decent number of things in San Andreas that were edited for content in the Japanese release. This is not especially unusual, as Final Fantasy 12's censored scene in Japan can show. Sexual references and depictions were edited out, and the pimping side mission is completely gone, for example. However, the biggest bit of censorship that affects the game comes when everything associated with drugs was edited.

Drugs are looked upon with extreme negativity in Japan, to the point where they are often a taboo topic even in media, which led to drug references being removed. However, drugs play a significant role in San Andreas' story. CJ and the Grove Street Families are firmly against drugs, which is one of the main reasons for their vendetta against the crack-pushing Ballas. As a result of these changes, Big Smoke betraying the gang and becoming a crack dealer, as well as his final hideout being called "Big Smoke's Crack Palace" had to be changed as well. Even smaller story segments, such as what happened to B Dup and Big Bear in San Andreas have to be edited around. By editing out drug references, not only does it remove one of the Grove Street Families' more noble traits in their opposition to hard drugs, but it changes a huge part of the story.

One may think that Grove Street's hatred of drugs would be acceptable, but the fact that drugs were referenced at all was enough to be censored. Although it did not affect gameplay, the fact that such a big part of the story had to be edited out lead to a more awkward and disjointed narrative on the whole. However, there were some changes that affected gameplay in big ways as well.

Combat is one of the most core parts of any Grand Theft Auto game, as much core to the series as driving. Although there was nothing on the level of GTA 5's unnecessary torture scene, some changes were made when the game went to Japan nonetheless. Some of these changes were fairly benign, such as removing decapitations from headshots and sword swings. Unfortunately, some of these changes had a more direct and negative effect on combat.
