Some tickets are not eligible for traffic school. For example, equipment offenses (like a tail light being out) or alcohol or drug-related offenses. If you didn't get the notice from the court or aren't sure if you are eligible, you can contact the court to find out.
Contact the court if you want to do traffic school. The clerk or judge will give you a deadline to finish traffic school. Pay the court and a traffic school fee. Sign-up for traffic school. The DMV has a list of approved traffic schools.
Approximately two weeks prior to your appearance date, you may receive a courtesy notice from the court in the mail. This notice will tell you if you may be eligible to attend traffic school. Traffic school eligibility shall be determined by California Rules of Court, rule 4.104. If you are eligible and decide not to attend traffic school, your driving record and automobile insurance may be adversely affected. For drivers with a non-commercial driver license, one conviction in any 18-month period may be held confidential and not show on your driving record if you complete traffic school. For drivers with a commercial driver license, driving a non-commercial vehicle, one conviction in any 18-month period will show on your driving record without a violation point if you complete traffic school.
A person charged with an infraction who is eligible and wishes to have the case proceed as a misdemeanor (See Pen. Code 17(d)(1), 19.8) must make a court appearance before attending traffic school to make that election. By attending traffic school without appearing in court to make that election, the person waives the right to proceed as a misdemeanor.
NOTE: You will be granted a one-time 90 day continuance to complete traffic school. Traffic schools are now required to electronically notify the court of traffic school completion. Paper certificates may only be issued to drivers with out-of-state licenses, who will then be responsible for notifying the court with the signed original certificate. California licensed drivers should rely on the schools to notify the court.

List of Traffic Schools The list of traffic schools is maintained by the California DMV and is available from their Occupational License Status Information System. You can choose to take online classes or in-person classes in your area.

Are you able to take traffic school? To determine if you are eligible to participate in an Arizona Defensive Driving course, first select a school and submit your information. The school will conduct a court database check once you register to make sure you are eligible.
You have not attended a Defensive Driving course for an eligible traffic citation issued within the past 12 months. Your eligibility to attend a Defensive Driving Course is based on the date of your current violation not on the date you last attended a Defensive Driving Course.

Driver Improvement was established to monitor and evaluate adult and juvenile driver records based on point values assigned to accidents and/or convictions for moving traffic violations. A driver may be required to attend an 8-hour Defensive Driving School and/or have their driving privileges suspended when they have exceeded the number of points allowed.
Tennessee drivers may be eligible to remove points for a speeding conviction from their driving record by taking an approved Driver Education Course. Only the points will be removed, the conviction will remain.

If you hold a Commercial Driver License, you may be eligible to take traffic school if you were ticketed in a non-commercial vehicle. However, once your traffic school certificate of completion has been fully processed by the court with the DMV, you will need to contact your local DMV Driver Safety Unit (DSU) in order to get the point masked from your record. Also, the driver/student must contact the DSU for clearance. Someone else cannot call on your behalf. You can find your local DSU at -education-and-safety/driver-safety-offices/ and contact them.
