Hi neighbors -
There's a picture making the rounds of 2 euthanized bears at Logan
landfill. I'm not sharing it, because it's hard to look at, but it's a
useful reminder of the fact that a fed bear is a dead bear. The bears
are hungry as they prep for hibernation, and bird feeders, trash cans,
barbecues, pet food, and other sources are fair game as far as they're
concerned. So please, secure these sources so we can continue to watch
these creatures in their natural state. The zoning regulation requires
some of this ("All refuse shall be stored in animal-proof containers or
made unavailable to all domestic and wild animals.") and it's not hard
to do - last time I checked, the garbage pickup companies offered
bear-proof cans.
On a different note, there's still time to make some progress in the war
on weeds.

Thanks to Carol Fifer for the reminder.
Tom
