Good Afternoon,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing regarding the upcoming Amenity Authority Committee’s (AAC) Budget Workshop scheduled for March 16th. Based on discussions during previous board meetings, there are two items related to Community Watch that may be addressed during the workshop:
1. Changes to the Gate Systems
There have been discussions about transitioning the gates to an automatic mode, which would represent a reduction in services that were promised when we purchased our homes. Implementing automatic gates could have several detrimental effects, including compromising security and safety (e.g., locating missing persons, crime prevention) and creating a perception that our community is less secure.
2. Reducing and/or Eliminating Gate Security Staff
This would impact the 12 gates in the AAC area currently staffed by personnel, the vast majority of whom are fellow Villagers. These staff members do far more than simply open gates - they assist lost individuals, prevent traffic backups at busy intersections, and perform other essential duties that contribute to the safety and functionality of our community.
The Villages Homeowners Advocates (VHA) believes that implementing either or both of these changes would result in a significant reduction in services that are integral to making The Villages a great, safe, and secure place to live.
We will have VHA representation at the meeting, and if you would like to join us to ensure your voice is heard during the public comment section, please let me know. Together, we can emphasize the importance of maintaining these essential services.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like additional information.
