As the used bookstore in Big Stone Gap, Virginia celebrates its one-year anniversary, here's what's on offer for the rest of this month and for November. (For those unfamiliar with our location, we are at 404 Clinton Ave E, behind the post office and courthouse, across the street from the liquor store).Enjoy!

Friday, Oct. 26 at 7pm is International Night, focused on Ecuador. Rut and Esteban Ponce will be giving an infotaining talk replete with song and taste treats. The evening is free.
Saturday, Oct. 27 noon - 2 pm bring your old clothes, your ideas and your adult if you're a kid and come to the bookstore to make a costume uniquely designed for you! Free
SOCKS class - learn to knit socks with Fiona Zahnke. All the Tuesdays in November. Call for supplies and fees. 523-5097
Saturday, Nov. 3 at 7 pm - enjoy St Andrews Night, a Scottish celebration featuring bagpipes, a potted history of Scots, Celts and others, and some good clean fun. Free
Friday, Nov. 9 at 7 pm wine tasting with Suzanne Lawson, of the award-winning Mountain Rose Winery $3 buys glass and sips
Monday, November 11 at 7 pm Sustainable Living Night, discussing ideas for a Sustainable Holiday Season, including decorating, entertaining and giving. Everyone welcome. Bring an idea to share, or sit back and listen to some good ones from others.
And our one year anniversary party, the weekend of Nov. 17/18: bring us a balloon with a good wish tied to it and get 20% off your choice of a book. Thanks for making us your bookstore!
Our usual run of monthly events is as always:
first Sunday - Sunday sing 1 pm - instruments welcome but not needed. We sit around and take turns singing!
first Monday - writing group 7 pm
first Thursday - needlework nights 7 pm - bring your portable project for this social evening
STOMP - Second Thursday of the Month Players, a hilarious night of theatre games for adults 7 pm
third Thursday - book club 6:30 pm
And don't forget to book ahead for CELTIC CHRISTMAS, the weekend of Dec. 1 and Dec. 8, 7 pm each night. This program was so popular last year we couldn't accommodate all those wanting to participate, so we are expanding it to a second night. The evening is free but reservations are required. Taste snacks from the Seven Celtic nations, and partipate in Christmas carols, stories and traditions from these lands, each unique yet sharing a common heritage.
