Program Genie Universal Keypad

Thiskeypad can be programmed to up to three individual garage door openers in any combination of manufacturer specifications. You will need your opener ID# from Chart A for these steps. To start over at any time, return to STEP 2 - CLEARING THE KEYPAD above.

1. With keypad backlighting off, press the PROGRAM button twice to program a second opener OR press it three times to program a third opener (the blue LED will flash slowly). With the blue LED still flashing, return to #3 in the section above and enter its opener ID# from CHART A. Continue with the remaining numbered steps.

If the keypad is to be used by normally unauthorized personnel (such as a repairman) a temporary PIN can be assigned to that personnel to gain access to the garage. This PIN will remain active until the main PIN is used again.

This is a Universal Keypad supplemental instruction for dip switch compatible operators. Use this in place of Step 3 of the main instruction. Reference the main instructions for all other keypad features and functions.

Each shaded box below represents a DIP switch position. Create a similar diagram and write in the number 1, 2 or 3 as it corresponds to the +, 0, or - switch position shown on the remote, opener or receiver. You will need to reference this section in STEP 3 later. (Not all boxes will be used when working with 9 switch openers).

The instructions in this video will help you with both new and old-style Genie Intellicode garage door openers. Use the guide below to go straight to the steps if you are programming the new keypad, changing the pin or factory resetting an already installed keypad.

1. Ensure that the number pad backlighting is off.

2. Press and hold the PROGRAM and UP/DOWN Keys together for approximately 5 seconds.

3. The LED will flash twice and all lights will go out indicating the keypad has been reset.

4. Start at STEP 1 to program a new PIN number

Very often a customer will try for hours to program a new wireless keypad to their existing garage door opener. You can hear the frustration in their voices. You can almost see the look of helplessness in their faces. However, in most cases this frustration can be resolved by following a couple simple programming steps.

First, you must understand that the new Genie wireless keypads are set from the manufacturer in what is referred to as Series II mode. A Series II keypad simply means that it automatically seeks and transmits at the most optimal radio frequency. This feature eliminates the possibility of radio interference and ensures optimal operation.

All older model Genie Intellicode garage door openers manufactured after 2001 utilize Series I technology. Series I technology allows the keypad to randomly rotate through billions of different security combinations but only transmits at one radio frequency.
