Dear all please see below a press release from Alan CRUICKSHANK in licencing. Please forward to any of your members who may be interested.

Between the 10th and 13th May 2011, a joint operation took place targeting off-licences and restaurants in Tower Hamlets.

Officers from the Tower Hamlets Police Licensing Unit, Whitechapel Town Centre Team, Customs and Excise and Council Trading Standards officers concentrated the visits on the Brick Lane area.

A number of off licences and restaurants had goods seized (approximately 664 bottles of wine and 271 bottles of various spirits) where UK duty had not been paid. Counterfeit goods were also seized.

PC Alan Cruickshank from the Licensing Unit said: " A large number of off licences and restaurants are buying "smuggled"" or counterfeit goods. These joint operations have been a great success. Further operations are planned to target this increasing problem

I continue to work with PC Cruickshank to resolve issues in Brick Lane relating to licencing. In particular issues surrounding off licences. As a result of the above operation and ongoing work we are looking at the viability of asking to have two off licences reviewed.

I would ask that any one who has or has had issues with off licences continues to record problems in their diaries, the more specific the better,

In particular we are looking for incidents of rowdy behaviour from youths who have been in/on or around premises. Again the more recent the better.

If I believe we have a realistic prospect of success  I will be asking for statements from all of you.  So please keep your diaries going.

Any issues please contact myself or PC Alan CRUICKSHANK in licencing.

Yours

Steve MARTIN

Hi,

Residents in Woodseer st had a very transparent meeting with the local police last week regarding the growing anti social problems in our area and the issues making it difficult for our local police force to be effective.

Tonights Evening Standard on page 3 carries a full page article about a club in Chelsea which had its opening hours slashed after neighbours claimed noisy revellers were urinating and having sex in the street. Local councillors saw fit to take this decision through the licensing panel.
I have to ask why preventative measures aimed at the main causes of local anti social behaviour are not being carried out by our Council. IE could the licensing panel take more interest in Cafe 1001 and other bars on the Brewery site.
Complaints have already been verified and attributed to these establishments over the last 3 years and backed up with residential online diaries cc'd to the Council and Police.

Regards

Will
