For info

I have had an email from the Whitechapel Centre team. Apparently they have been called on to help out in other places because of ‘unprecedented demands’

in and out of TH. (Royal Wedding?)Therefore they have not been able to patrol as they would have wished, particularly at weekends.

There will be another OP MERCER starting in June when there should be 12 officers in the Brick Lane area on a nightly basis; Friday and Saturday working from 8pm to 4am.

Another team of 1 Inspector 2 sergeants and 38 PCs is also coming on line at the end of May. They will be working Borough wide on ASB, and Brick Lane will be part of their remit.

The more worrying part is the no-show when calling 999. This happens 50% of the time and whats more frustrating is seeing passing police cars while waiting. Two weeks ago I called 999 about a somali gang selling drugs- there were fights outside in our street between them and 'punters' - again no show, even after an assurance from the operator that they were on their way. 2 hours later the gang put someone in a coma.

I recently heard that the reason officers don't stay long on a single patch in the East End is so that they don't succumb to temptation / corruption. I wonder how people could change that as continuity would be beneficial wouldn't it?

In my experience the East End is seen as a ‘must do’ for any police person wanting promotion. They come here, get the experience and get promoted. This has happened to all the sergeants we have had on the SNTs.
