I found some information about mosquitoes in the Atlanta Home Reports
2009 publication:
Standing water:
Mosquitoes require standing water to reproduce and rarely fly more
than a few hundred feet from where they hatch. Therefore, removing
areas of standing water is essential to controlling mosquitoes.
Potential problem areas include puddles, kiddie pools, buckets,
gutters, and ponds; mosquitoes will not breed in treated water, such
as a properly maintained swimming pool.
Mosquito Treatments:
Monthly mosquito service also controls the nuisance of mosquitoes by
repelling them with pesticide. Proper treatment can significantly
reduce mosquitoes, even if nearby neighbors do not spray regularly.
Treatments are usually applied to plants and areas of standing water.
Since there are different mosquito treatments available, before
signing a contract or hiring a company, homeowners should understand
what type of service they will be receiving. To eliminate problems
with mosquitoes, always use knowledgeable and high-quality pest
control companies.
Outdoor residential misters:
Some homeowners purchase outdoor residential misting systems, also
called mosquito misters. These systems spray pesticides outdoors,
killing mosquitoes and other insects. Misters are mounted in the lawn
or on parts of the house. They can be turned on at preset intervals
using a timer or can be activated using a remote controlor an indoor
switch. For more information on misting systems, contact pest control
experts.
Hope this helps!
