On the night of June 17th, 1972, security guard Frank Wills at the Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C. was just doing his job, and ended up changing history. Heather and I were talking about the Watergate Scandal last week, and how the series of events that led to a president’s resignation had deeply affected us both in our youth. In my case, it led me to want to be a political cartoonist.

Our planning discussions on what to draw and talk about in these monthly collaborations always brings fresh insight for me. It’s fascinating to hear Heather’s perspective on key historical events, share my input, and then we hash out how it might be relevant to today. Or also, as in this case, relevant to our own experience.

Thanks for being here!

I'm a history professor interested in the contrast between image and reality in American politics. I believe in American democracy, despite its frequent failures.
