AMC Rock Program this April

For those who would like to get started on outdoor climbing, or develop their outdoor skills, the schedule and updated info for the Boston AMC instructional Rock Program is now live on the Mountaineering Committee website:

From the "Program Details:"
The Rock Program is about rock climbing outdoors, in particular
learning about the rope techniques and safety systems used in
outdoor climbing. Our focus is on preparing students to be safe
and capable followers for trad climbs, but we teach a variety of
skills that are useful for other kinds of outdoor rock climbing.
For example, students will learn to setup top-rope anchors,
clean sport anchors, and so on.
Registration will open on March 12th after the optional "info night" presentation at AMC Headquarters. Instruction is at Quincy Quarries on five full days spread over three weekends in April (not including the Easter weekend) and the first weekend in May -- both days on the first weekend, and either day thereafter -- the full schedule is on the Web site. If you think you might be interested, you should try to keep these weekend days free.
The teaching is all done by volunteers, many with decades of outdoor experience, which makes it the best deal going. This was my "finishing school" for outdoor rock climbing when I took it 31 years ago (and I've been teaching ever since). More than that, it introduced me to the Boston AMC climbing community, some of whom subsequently taught me to lead -- trad, of course, as sport climbing was much less common back then.

Oops; I had meant to send out a reminder about the AMC Rock Program information night; that was last Tuesday. Applications are still being accepted until midnight tonight, so if you have any interest in expanding your outdoor climbing horizons, now is the time to check it out.
