A Remote Desktop Gateway (RD Gateway) lets you connect to a remote computer on a corporate network from anywhere on the Internet. You can create and manage your gateways using the Remote Desktop client.
You can have multiple connections open to different PCs at the same time. Tap the connection bar to display the session selection bar on the left-hand side of the screen. The session selection bar enables you to view your open connections and switch between them.
The client has Bluetooth mouse support for iOS 13 and iPadOS as an accessibility feature. You can use Swiftpoint GT or ProPoint mice for deeper mouse integration. The client also supports external keyboards that are compatible with iOS and iPadOS.
Camera redirection protocol (MS-RDPECAM) doesn't support dynamically changing the camera resolution while the camera is in use, such as when rotating the device. You need to start and restart the camera. For example, in the camera app, assuming you're using the front camera, change to the rear camera, then back to the front camera.
Questions and comments are always welcome. However, if you post support requests or product feedback in this article's comments section, we won't be able to respond to your feedback. If you need help or want to troubleshoot your client, we highly recommend you go to the Remote Desktop client forum and start a new thread.
I often share screens with family to help them out on their Macs. But I thought I would ask if there is any kind of remote desktop app for the iPad so that I could see someone's iPad screen remotely. I'm assuming there is not because this would be way beyond a "sandbox" violoation. Nevertheless, I thought I'd ask.
Look at Splashtop Desktop Remote and Team Viewer. I don't see why they would not work on someone else's computer as long as they download the helper apps on their Macs. However, you would have to read the information for yourself. I have Team Viewer and I can control and see my MacBook desktop with it.
Perhaps I didn't explain what I'm wanting to do clearly enough. If I want to provide support to someone who is using an iPad, is there any way that from my Mac I could pull up the screen of someone's iPad via some kind of remote desktop app, go into Settings (or any particular app) on that person's iPad and help that person out?
Thanks everyone for trying to help. I don't see Apple ever letting a third party create an app that would do this, but perhaps one day they will expand the capabilities of Remote Desktop to include support for iPads.
Hi, I have the same question. My mother is 90 and when she has a problem on her iPad sometimes I need to see what she is trying to do, or show her how to do something. I would like to know if you ever found a solution for an iPad yo iPad remote login. What a great help desk app something like that would be!!
There is. It's called log me in rescue. Unfortunately it only is available in the enterprise version the last time I checked. I have not found any app since using logmein rescue that does this though.
I think you need to try them both again. We trialed both and I was able to control my iPad from my desktop here at work. I was also able to control my iPhone. A ton has changed since this thread was opened. Just thought I would add to it in case someone was looking for the answer that is now available. Too bad it's enterprise level.
After reviewing their website and tech notes, it appears that you can NOT remote control an Apple iOS device but have the ability through an App to share a web browser and some screen shots, Whiteboard together but NOT true remote control like with other types of desktop and laptop OS.
The latest. We trialed it here at work and are trying to decide between logmein and bomgar. Again only the enterprise versions of these products do this. It's only a matter of time before another company or someone else comes up with a cheaper solution for us techs that support family and friends.
When you add Chrome Remote Desktop to your home screen, it makes the app accessible from your home screen and it hides the address bar. This is the only way to view your remote desktop in full-screen.
Any ideas on what I am missing? I did try Googling this issue and there is not a lot of info on that error code. Some of the suggestions are on the server side, which in this case, I do not have access to change those settings.
This is a cellular connection with a RDP gateway. No VPN or local connection. That did give me a thought though - I connected the device to my local WiFi, which has a VPN connection and confirmed that I can access the remote terminal server that way. I am checking with our hosted support to confirm the connection information.
Well, we ended up buying the Jump remote desktop app which works with the settings. I assume that the issue lies with the iPadOS update and Microsoft Remote Desktop. We have more than one of these iPads, and this is the only one that is having issues. I did not check, but perhaps the other iPads have not updated yet?
I was wondering if there are plans to add remote desktop capability to mobile clients, specifically, to iOS. I am looking forward not having to use overlapping services. However, current implementation still leaves me needing Logmein or TeamViewer...
I realize you already have your own RD connection, and I use it often, but once it's hooked into the pulseway webapp what's the roadmap for features like file transfers, quality settings, proper scale settings, faster screen switching, chat, etc and an iOS app? Thank you Chris
We are still working on this. The Pulseway RD connection currently doesn't support file transfer, however we will introduce this option, when we will introduce the P2P connections for the Pulseway RD connection. This will greatly increase the Pulseway RD connection speed. Also we are planning to add the chat option via Pulseway RD. This is our roadmap.
There are actually two open source projects you could borrow here MeshCentral2 or Remotely and make the feature available in the web app.
At the moment I have Meshcentral2 installed on all my computers so I can work from my iPad (browser)
This issue happens only when I am connected via VPN using T-Mobile network. When using VPN on a WiFi network it works perfectly, it also works fine when used via WiFi within the same network where my computer is connected here in my office.
There shouldn't be anything specific to the RD client running on your old iPad's software vs your new iPad's software that would affect error code 0x204. Is this error reproducible? Or has it just happened a couple times?
Good morning, thanks for your prompt reply and yes, it is happening all the time, I mean, RD Client on T-Mobile is not working at all on any of the 5 new Ipads we just purchase for some executives. I have to insist: RD works perfectly when I am connected to WiFi within our network and also when using VPN on an external WiFi network but it doesn't work when there is no Wifi just the T-Mobile data network, which is when is most needed. The VPN connects fine but when RD is open the error shows.
The app engineering team does not have any guidance to provide related to your Remote Desktop issue at the time as it seems mostly related to accessing session hosts via VPN using T-Mobile network which is not an issue they have seen/delt with before.
VPN issues can have several causes. The first step is to verify that the VPN works on the same network as your PC or Mac computer. If you can't test with a PC or Mac, you can try to access a company intranet web page with your device's browser.
Good morning, thanks for your follow up and research, we found out that there is an issue with the latest version between IOS and VPN connectivity, with previous versions everything works perfectly, but with the most recent it doesn't work, we were able to make it work using domain name server instead of IP addresses which is weird because it should be able to work with both, we still are also researching on our side. Happy Holidays.
P.P.S. I tried another experiment, this time using the iPhone 12 mini with only the (T-Mobile) cellular enabled as a hotspot connection for my WiFi Samsung tablet. The Remote Desktop client on my Samsung Tablet was able to connect via OpenVPN to my Windows 10 PC (through T-Mobile using the iPhone 12 mini's hotspot).
I am experiencing this issue with the latest iPad, OpenVPN connects effortlessly, Remote Desktop clocks and then gives the error 0x204. As with the others, when using WiFi in the office it works as well.
Just as a "FYI": I'm not sure how the "DNS server workaround" mentioned above was implemented. As another test, for "PC Name" in the RD Client, I replaced the private IP address of the Windows PC I am trying to connect to with my dynamic DNS server address but as I expected, I still could not connect via OpenVPN. The reason I doubted it would work is that my dynamic DNS server address points to the internet address of my router (the same router that serves as my OpenVPN server) and not to the target PC with the private IP address. As before, as soon as I switch from cellular to WiFi the connection works fine.
I'm wondering if this workaround is successful because for your situation, use of the pc's hostname causes circumvention of the VPN connection altogether. If I'm right, you are instead connecting via another mechanism (such as SMB). In any event, hostname doesn't work for me when I connect via cell phone using OpenVPN from either Android or iPhone. For the Android Remote Desktop app the host's private IP address does work. For the iPhone Remote Desktop app, it doesn't.
not exactly, I have to go back to where the problem started: on my new Ipad the RDC app didn't work when connected VPN using T-Mobile network to access my PC , after some research I noticed that the fix was to add my PC to the RDC App using the PC host name (instead of IP), the pc name found in Windows - Control Panel - System - and with this modification the connection started to work when VPN using T-Mobile from anywhere.
