Hi everyone,
I know you haven't heard from me in a while, I was sick for a while, then very busy because being sick backed everything up.
Anyway,
I was at the peace march in Melbourne this weekend and I met quite a
few great progressive activists from all over Florida. I also met with
some of the State Greens again and we talked about what we need to do
to get going in Brevard and about some of the initiatives we can work
towards.
One of the big things we discussed was getting the Brevard GP
started. What we need to do is get a set of Bylaws, there are plenty we
can steal from other local chapters, and have our officials for the
first year elected. The officials are two co-chairs a secretary and a
treasurer. If anyone is interested is stepping up to fill these spots
please let me know.
The second thing we discussed was an initiative that may become
state wide to get municipalities to loosen their restrictions on
keeping small agricultural animals on suburban property (such as
chickens, ducks, maybe goats) and on community gardens.
In other news. I have the website up at
brevardgreens.com
and I hope to start putting a lot of content there soon. Some of it
will just be copied from state and national sources but I would like to
get some information on local issues going too. If your interested in
contributing to the website let me know.
I would like to schedule a planning meeting sometime in the next
few weeks, possibly this upcoming weekend so we can make some progress
before the state GP meeting in mid-May. When would be good for people?
How about this weekend, April 4 and 5?
