The Coalition of Immokalee Workers has recently ramped up a new Harvest of Shame campaign. This campaign has in the last year been successful in getting companies like Taco Bell and Burger King to pay an extra 1 cent per pound of tomatoes. This doesn't sound like much but it improves the wages of Florida migrant farm workers who toil in what is arguably indentured servitude. Now they're going after Publix Supermarkets!
Check out this great Florida Today blog post that sums everything up nicely:

The issue of modern day slavery is one overlooked by most of us and it sure isn't covered in the media. That's why it falls to groups like the Green Party to educate others. I have just requested an organizing packet from CIW so that we can get involved in this effort. It includes information sheets, a DVD and a few hundred postcards. The postcards are the heart of their campaign, we get people to fill them out and they are prepaid and addressed to Publix HQ.
I'll keep you up on if I hear back from them.
