Hi Guys,
I have a burned up board over here due to a netlist mistake.
I had created a symbol of an IC in ORCAD with vcc pins assigned as Power pins.
Now I had connected some of the vcc pins to a power net while i left one pin disconnected.
I was using two refdes of this symbol in my schematic page : U1 and U2.
ORCAD has generated a net by the name VCC and connected the two left out pins on U1 and U2.
Can anyone tell me how to avoid this problem?
I though of some solutions as below, but they have problems:
1- I tried to add NC symbol on these pins, but it does not apply to power pins, atlease thats what i think.
2- Next, I made the disconnected pins as Passive, this solved my problem. But now the problem is that, the symbol is usually made by some other designer while schematic hookup is done by another. T
he symbol creater usually attached Power pin attribute to all pins which are related to power supply, etc. Shall the power pin information be communicated between the two designers?
So any ideas / solutions??? How are other guys avoiding this problem?
Hassan
I have found a lot of sch. files, made in very old version of OrCAD - v1.25 (1985-1987 years). Also I have this version OrCAD with all libraries, and all work fine under DosBox emulator. I have two question:
I think, that is very early version of OrCAD, with own, incompatible file format. I tried to open my files in late MS-DOS OrCAD version 3, and got error "incompatible file format". Attach some screenshots with my OrCAD (splash screen and draft)
I am using Orcad version 7.01. I tried converting old sch* files to it and it comes up with a message that says: Error encountered, please check the session log. I checked the session log but there is nothing busefull there. Here is what it says.

I made a 31DQ10 diode in OrCAD from SPICE code because OrCAD didn't have one in its library. After exporting it to OrCAD with the model editor and running a simple circuit using that diode I am getting the following error.

Along with access to the OrCAD Capture software, this offer provides additional service and support benefits that are not available with traditional free/low-cost options. This helps innovators rest assured that when deadlines are looming or they need assistance, the PCB design experts at EMA will be available to provide support and answer questions quickly.
Although the OrCAD Capture software comes with an extensive library covering a wide variety of components, this promotion also includes a three-month license of OrCAD Library Builder. This lets an innovator quickly create symbols, footprints, and 3D models for numerous part types. Also, to help new users get started, this promotion includes tutorials and a self-paced training course complete with lessons and exercises that lead the new user through the software to get them proficient with OrCAD Capture quickly. A package containing all of this would normally cost $3,018, the innovator just has to pay the maintenance fee of $390, for this limited time offer.
How it works
The OrCAD CIS Database Integration connects Arena and CIS Database. The integration updates CIS Database with the latest component information such as lifecycle status and any custom properties. With your component library connected directly to Arena, your designers can see supply chain information during the design process. This visibility from within OrCAD significantly shortens time to market.
This is a uni-directional quick integration designed and sold by Arena that lets you gain immediate value in automating data share between Arena and OrCAD CIS. For a full-featured bidirectional integration, see the solution listing provided by Arena partner EMA.

I had a similar problem exporting a 2D dxf (with closed and open curves) for use in CamBam. CamBam insists on a single polyline for a good toolpath. By default, Rhino exports my curves as a set of arcs, splines and polylines.

Hello all I am looking to start a board with Arduino Uno Rev 3 on it. Are there any orcad schematics for arduino uno? I am talking about the whole schematic on Orcad not just the symbol. I looked into the arduino website and only saw some Eagle files. Thanks for any help
In general design, it's a sans-serif with wider than average proportions. The most similar designs which are vector fonts would be something like GrilliType GT America Extended/Expanded (you'd want to switch in the simpler 'g'), Helvetica Neue 63 Extended or Univers 63.
We are currently installing our first copy of Capture/CIS and will get training in a couple weeks. We also use WC and will migrate to 10.2 version mid winter. I had some not so good experience with Mentor Graphic trying to get a BOM let alone a Variant BOM. I found that Variant part for the most part not functioning. The mechanism that was used was to read an EDIF file extraction.
Thanks Jim, I don't see anything comming through in the EDIF that relates to the Variant name...at least not by searching the text in the EDIF. I am guessing this is also why the OOTB WGM doesn't find variants...as it is also working with the default edif information. The 'EXCEPT_ASSY' parameter does work, but I can't seem to figure out the syntax for stating multiple variants into the same parameter...i.e. var1 and var2 for a specific component. Everything seems to be coming through as a new unique variant, instead of two seperate existing variants.
Alternately, use hooks for variant generation in combination with the Mentor automated variant manager (assuming it can generate each variant in *.csv format). The *.csv file should be in the format with each RefDes per line with no redundant lines with summaries or other prints. Look at the example design.csv generated by Creo View ECAD Adapters. Is there a tool to run to generate the variant.csv template (like design.csv)? Once I have the template like the single level BOM is there an adapter (batch file to extract what is need by WGM and Windchill?)
1. Remove the old version of Cadence and clean up the registry.
2. Disable antivirus.
3. Unzip the folder AleegoCrackMasterV2_1_2.7z
4. View inside AleegoCrackMasterV2_1_2 / AleegoCrackMasterV2 folder and run as Administrator AleegoCrackMasterV2.exe file
5. Remove the scoreboard in the middle by a closing cross.
6. Press the lower right corner button.
7. In the window that appears on the second line with the first button to select the file in the folder Distr_Cadence Cadence SPB 17.2-2016 www.mr-wu.cn.7z
8. In the third line by pressing the button on the right to select the disk where the package will be installed
9. Click on the lower right corner of the last button
10. In the window that appears click on the blue circle three times
11. A window will open that will display the installation process

I run allegro.exe. I choose which program I want to run. The program opens for 4 seconds and then closes without any message for errors.
I booted in safe mode and this time the program closed with this error message:
Retrieval of allegro studio license failed. Error LMF 13096. License server path is defined as . FLEXnet error (-96,234,11004). License server machine is down or not responding. Run lic_error LMF-13096 for more information. file->viewlog:license_use.log
The option of the trashcan icon is not readily available until the conversion process is done.
I assume that library conversion with many items will not work (maybe it's a bug). The conversion succeeded when I made the process with only one component library item.
It is obvious that it has some compatibility issues. Have you checked the file health? maybe the file you are trying to upload is corrupted or something like that. Try to use the options like KiCad or Altium designer with the same file.
