Please share ONE of the warnings you found when reading back through 1
Peter chapters 1-3.

One of the warnings that caught my attention is both in
2:23 "[Jesus] did not retaliate...made no threats.."
and 3:9 "Do not repay evil for evil..insult for insult..".
Someone I know tells his grandchildren when they bicker
that the 'A' in the abc's of Christian living is 'absorb, absorb,
absorb' rather than retaliate. I'm thinking this may be the
easiest..but
the most difficult..way to be submissive to our husbands
as we've struggled in this study to understand how to do.
Perhaps if we return 'insult' with 'blessing' in our marriage
relationship, we might come close to having the 'gentle and
quiet spirit that is of great worth in God's sight.'(3:4)

2:11- Abstain from all sinful desires. So short and seemingly simple,
yet it covers so much.. How much better off would we all be if we
could just heed this one warning

Did you ladies find several? I sure did!

One of my favs was 1 Peter 1:18 where Peter tells us that we are not
redeemed with perishable things.

When I read this the words "empty way of life handed down to you from
your forefathers" stands out. I realize that there is a lot of
background behind this verse but it also resonates with me when I
think of our world today. It seems that in this day and age so many
talk of feeling unfulfilled/unsatisfied with their life and yet we so
often look to fill up this void with the things the world tells us we
should (possessions, money, quest for beauty, recognition, etc...)
even though we are warned that it is only through Jesus Christ that we
will be redeemed and can find true fulfillment.

One of the warnings that stood out to me is the one in 2:16 - "do not
use your freedom as a cover up for evil"

This warning stuck out to me because of how I see the word "freedom"
interpreted by many people in the here and now. I see many people
that treat freedom as a pass to do whatever they want to no matter how
it affects others. People see their freedom as allowing them to do
whatever they want to whenever they want to. And they feel that this
freedom is a right. I've seen too many people claiming to be
Christian using this freedom to do whatever they want now because "I
can repent later and God will still forgive me"; or using their
freedom to pick and choose which parts of the Bible are applicable to
us today. Our freedom in Christ is freedom from the law and
sacrifices of the OT. It is the freedom to be able to ask for
forgiveness when we mess up. It is not the freedom to deliberately
live a sinful life.
