Hi Ladies -

I was wondering if we had a book pick for the November meeting yet.  I am a slow reader and would like to get started well in advance so I can actually finish one.  LMK.

Hi Brigitta,

I think it is mine, sorry about that.  Pass it on to someone who may want it or I will get it at the next book club.  Thanks!

Hi Book clubbies. Sorry a delay in getting book selection to you.
The book I am choosing to do for November is: "Tomboy Bride", by
Harriet Fish Backus (now there's a name for you!). I read it a few
years ago and have always thought it would make a great book club
selection. A truly fascinating story, written by a really fascinating
and strong woman. Plus, she made her permanent home in Piedmont after
she and her husband were finished with the mining business.

Here is a description of the book: "A true pioneer of the West,
Harriet Backus writes about her amusing and often challenging
experiences with heart-felt emotion and vivid detail."

"The popular autobiographical account of a pioneer woman's amusing and
often difficult experiences in and around the Tomboy Mine above
Telluride, the copper mines of British Columbia, the remote regions of
Idaho, and finally Leadville."

If you are curious, there is even a Facebook fan page for the book.
Hope you enjoy. -Karen

Karen, that book sounds fascinating.  I would love to read it.

I can't find it on the library website.  I assume it can be had at Amazon, etc, but a lot of our members borrow the books from the library.  Am I looking in the wrong place?  Can you find it?

Sorry I'll miss out. I'll be up at Adams the rest of the year.  I do love to hear what you all read though!  If you ever plan an evening meeting, let me know.

Good!  I would put it on my top 20 books of the last 10 years.  Have not read anything like it.

Celia -

Our local B&N doesn't have it in stock.  They can order it for $16.99 or you can get it online for about $13.  I used Link+ and found a few copies on it.  I have one coming from the SFPL.

Hi guys, I am sorry, I didn't realize it would be so hard to get a copy. Why don't we choose another book? I can put another selection out by 8 am 2morro. What think you?

Well, the consensus seems to say stay w/ it. Also, some people already bought it. Someone is welcome to borrow my copy too, I just want it back in a couple of weeks. It is worth the hunt!
