Hi,

I've recently moved house, and as part of that have had to get a satellite internet service, as BT is pretty much unavailable.

Therefore had to change the router which has caused no end of hell with the Sonos, but that's all sorted now.

There is one remaining issue though, which is my beloved B2.  Basically, I just can't connect to it from Sonos.

So, a few details:

1) B2 is happily connected to the router, can process software updates and has the correct time displayed, so is connected to the internet via the router.
2) I can now connect to it via my pc's using the IP address.  To be honest, this was extremely slow at the start / even didn't work, but now any of my machines connect almost instantly, bringing up the song files etc
3) Sonos, which is connected to the router both physically (via Cat5) and via wifi can't find "computer Brennan B2"
4) Before anyone asks, I've triple-checked B2's path, username and password!
4) It was suggested that I use an ethernet cable to connect B2 which (after much research on internet due to no cat 5 port) i have managed to do by taking the B2 apart inserting the cable and re-assembling
5) Sonos now says B2 won't allow it access!

I regard (5) as an improvement as at least Sonos can now find B2.

Odd thing is it has worked with the new router, but now simply refuses to be found.

Can anyone help??

Thanks!

James

James,

Firstly, was your B2/ Sonos system working before you moved house?

Secondly, on the B2 are you conecting on Ethernet and Wifi at the same time?  If so, it would be safer to remove one of the connections, preferably use just the Ethernet connection as it will be more reliable.

Thirdly, the same question on your Sonos.  If you have both a wired and wireless connection, remove one of these, preferably use just the Ethernet connection.

Finally, you are on Windows 10, check that SMB1.0 is running on your PC.  There is a post running on this topic, here is the link. The subject is 'NAS real or virtual' and shows how to enable SMB1.0 which Sonos needs to function.

Look through the above post.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the response.

So firstly, the B2 and Sonos were working fine at the old address.

Both the B2 and the Sonos have ethernet and WiFi connections, your point about ethernet being best noted.

Both even thought all the switches you advise are set to on I can't see the B2 on Network, either by WiFi or by ethernet.  Actually to be honest that's always been the case - can't ever remember being able to access the B2 via explorer.  Yet if I use internet explorer, chrome etc and the IP address it goes straight to it.  So its perhaps unsurprising that Sonos can't see it?

Any thoughts?

THanks!

Peter,

Just tried the B2 with ethernet only.

Still doesn't appear in NEtworks, and now, if I search via internet explorer, all machines find hte B2, but don't show up any of the music.

Additionally, Sonos now says that it "can't attach the library".

The plot thickens!!

Hi James,

I was just in the process of responding to you to ask if you could remove/ switch off the wireless connections from the B2 and Sonos completely for now but you have beaten me to that!  These devices can get 'confused' if there is more than one type of physical network connection running at the same time.

At this point, because of the muliple duplicate network connections, I would be inclined to power down and reboot the router, the B2, the Sonos and your PCs. Then see what happens after everything has settled down after the reboot.

It sounds like your network is not behaving too well so the powerdown and reboot should clear any network issues up.

Regards,
Peter.

Hi James,

Have you updated the B2's software - 9th January 2020 - has updates for NAS and Sonos.

After updating, go to Maintenance menu and select Stop NAS, then select Start NAS. Your B2 should appear under networks on your computer.

On the Sonos app if entering \\BRENNANB2\music doesn't work try \\192.168.1.127\music (replace the example IP Address with the one shown on your B2).
