My attempts to upgrade my BB1 to a 128GB Micro SD card have come unstuck. The 'Copy SD OS (and delete P3)' step worked fine up to and including rebooting but I consistently get a 'Failed' message when I run 'Create P3'. The SD Card is from SanDisk and appears to be bona fide.

Other than trying a different SD Card reader - which I don't have readily available - does anyone have any suggestions for troubleshooting this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Andrew,

I seem to recall that another BB1 user encountered this problem and found that if he ignored the 'Failed' error and just continued on with the process, then all was well.

I have created 256GB and 512GB microSD cards for my BB1 so the process does work correctly.  I have not had that problem so far,  The 256GB card is a SanDisk and the 512GB card is a PNY.

If you go to the link below, you will find access to a small but great piece of software that will quickly validate  the microSD card.

Regards,
Peter.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the suggestions. The test software verified that there are no problems with the microSD card itself and the 'carry on regardless' option didn't help, so unfortunately still stuck.

Suspect a compatability problem with the card reader (Hama - a German make). If there are any other ideas or anyone could recommend a card reader which has proven to work with this process I would be grateful.

I had the same problem when I first changed the micro SD card on my BB1. The card formatted OK with my original multi card reader/writer but I could not load the OS. I switched to a small Lexar one which came with my Lexar SD cards and that worked perfectly and solved the problem. I’ve used it a few times since.

I actually think it’s not the make of the card but how old it is.

Hope this helps.

Hi Andrew,

That's a pity so my next suggestion is as follows.

Plug the microSD card into a PC and see if it is formatted as 'FAT32'.  If is not 'FAT32' then download a format program (such as 'Seagate DiscWizard' or similar) and reformat to 'FAT32'.  Please note that no other format will work, not exFAT, NTFS, or anything else.

Then re-run the Brennan process and see if it now works.

Regards,
Peter.

Hi Andrew,

I use this kind of SD Card adapter with no problems -

Create P3 creates the partition where your music is stored.

Referring to Peter's suggestion, do all the partitions need to be FAT32 or just Partition 3? Examining the SDCard the present state is:

1. Boot Partition = FAT
2. Rootfs Partition = Ext4
3. Partition 3 = FAT32

By the way thanks to all for the help

Hi Andrew,

Probably best to format the SD Card to FAT32 and let the BB1 do what it needs to do with the various partitions.

Just to let you know that using a different card reader has solved the problem. So just unlucky in my first choice of card reader.

For anyone interested I succesfully used a SanDisk MobileMate USB 3.0 reader. Small and a bit fiddly but worked perfectly the first time.
