Suffering the "READ ONLY" syndrome and decided to backup, reformat, and import. However, backup stops halfway through.  I'm told this is due to a corrupt file. How to find this file and delete so backup can complete???

I made a backup before via NAS using a free program called RichCopy 4.0 interface from Microsoft, after the backup was complete it showed me the files that it was unable to transfer, maybe you can locate your corrupt file by doing this as well.

The Debug information may call out the problem file.  It should be the last one before the Export aborts.

The Debug info can be found in the WebUI:  Click the cog/gear icon near the top to open the Status window.  Down at the bottom of that window is a spanner/wrench - click that.

Hi BCre...,

Have you used the USB drive to make a backup before or is this the first time you have run a backup?

If this isn't the first time you are running a backup, the process will only add anything not already on the backup (it's incremental), so will be quicker than the first time it is run.

Have you plugged the backup drive into your computer (ignore any warnings and continue without scanning) to check what's been backed up?

Suggestions include -

Format the drive using the B2
Use USB A rather than USB C
Run Scan Disk before running Export to C and make a note of the Stats to check against the backup.

Peter Lowham posted some instructions for a successful Export - perhaps if he reads this post he will post them again :-)

Hi Guys,

I have attached two documents which give guidance for achieving a successful Export (and Import).  Also some guidance on reconciling the Export once it is complete.

Regards,
Peter.

Followed the export details exactly. Copied 358 files out of 14,607.
Have no idea which file is preventing the rest from copying. Short of reformatting the HDD and spending a couple of weeks reloading everything, not sure where to go from here.

This is the third time I've tried. A legit 2Tb drive. Each time I formatted the drive, so started with an entirely clean USB. Not copying incrementally.  Tried C slot twice, today tried A. Checked in my PC when done and each time, this is the total of copies each time.  B2 goes into standby at this point and copies nothing else.

Any other work round for HDD read only would be appreciated!  While everything already on the HDD plays (to my knowledge) obviously it prevents me from adding new files.

BCre...,

What brand and model is the backup HDD? Some models require more power than the B2 can continuously supply  and wonder if your's is one of those.

You could consider using NAS mode to copy the contents of the B2 to your computer (or the attached HDD). This may be slower, as it's done over your network.

BACKUP HDD??  I'm using a 2 TB stick to backup.
Give me a rundown on copying via NAS.  I've enabled NAS and get DESKTOP-L0D2BL3 in the network list, but cannot connect without network credentials.... impossible to access due to the needless complexities of Windows 10, even with established computer/user name and password.

Is there copying software to get by this?

Hi Barry,

As Jeff has suggested the 2TB stick could well be a fake.  Below is a link to another thread that tells you how to test the stick if you have a PC.

Peter.

I just checked the Western Digital online store. (WD own SanDisk, which is a reputable and representative brand.) They do not even OFFER a 2TB USB flash drive. The largest they have is a 1TB USB flash drive, for about US$170.

I'd be really suspicious of anything claiming to be a 2tb usb flash drive for substamtially less money.

Hi Mark,

Yes, I have not been able to find a 2TB USB stick from any reputable supplier either.  Hence my suspicion about the nature of this 2TB unit.

Peter.

Did you follow these instructions?: https://www.brennan.co.uk/itemcontent.php/content/Sonos
Because I'm pretty sure when I set up my NAS these were the instructions that I used.

Yep, followed all instructions - NAS does not show Brennan in my network. I've stopped NAS, started again, turned off, repowered, scanned, saved... still nothing.  Howewer, I get that I may need a reliable backup USB stick or drive and will try.... but I still have the problem of the corrupt file which is giving me a "read only".  That's  what I need to get around.  But it would be great if I could actually connect NAS  !!!

> "does not show Brennan in my network"

I gather you're waiting for it to magically "show up" under Network in the Windows 10 Windows Explorer (sometimes called the file manager)?
It won't. The client (Windows 10) software necessary for scanning the network to find things that are out there is not enabled, and DOES NOT NEED TO BE enabled.
You can connect even if it doesn't "appear", as long as you have actually enabled tje NAS function on your B2, AND both the B2 and your computer are actually connected to the same subnet (i.e., are both connected to your own home's router, and have the same first three numbers [separated by dots] in their IP addresses, e.g., 192.168.0.nnn, where the nnn differ).

I have provided a detailed set of steps for connecting Windows 10 to a B2 using NAS, including screen pictures, at https://groups.google.com/g/brennanb2/c/HLNlJi1N9rw/m/Nc8RnnYNBQAJ (it's down near the bottom of the thread). Take a look, please.
