My B2 hasn't been connecting to the wi-fi for a while, infuriatingly.  I have been trying to find out why - in the settings on the computer, under "Bluetooth and other devices", I can see tha the B2: root Not connected.  I have no idea what that means.  Is it that I have lost the IP address (168.195.1.95), is it something I can fix, or what?  In rural France, we have such erratic wi- fi that I have bought a D-Link extender to help the signal, but, for the moment, it does not seem to help, though it once did.  Should i not switch it off at night, even though the B2 does get quite hot?

Shutting off at night shouldn’t be a problem, but it is best to run the save process each time.

You'll want to check that the B2's assigned (by the router) IP address has not changed.  It is in the text that scrolls up the front panel display.

Mine has the same issue.  Was connected to my PC, even created a playlist or two, but now won't connect.  the MAC and IP showed up in my router, but when I added them, it rebooted and the Brennan hasn't been seen since.  Still well inside my 30 days so I think it may be going back, more trouble than it is worth at the moment.

Hi Iain,

If you are seeing 'B2:root' on your computer it indicates that DLNA is turned on - update the software and/or turn off DLNA (maintenance menu).

Then select Reset WiFi (Maintenance menu) and run Setup WiFi again.

Check that an IP address is displayed on the B2.

Hi Phillip,

I suspect the IP Address has changed since you fixed them on the router, so check the scrolling text on the B2 display.

If not try resetting the router.

You could also try Reset WiFi (Maintenance menu) and run Setup WiFi on the B2 again.

Hi Phillip,

Are you seeing an IP Address displayed on the B2?

Are you putting the IP address into the top most address line on the browser - if using Chrome and Google you enter the IP to the right of the 'G'?

Is your router a dual band one i.e. 2.4GHz and 5GHz - the dongle supplied with the B2 is for 2.4GHz? The B2 may be finding and trying to connect to the 5GHz band. On some routers they have the same network name.

Hi Iain,

Have you made any progress connecting the B2?

Using the IP address shown, putting it into my browser.  As to the router, it's the one that Sky sent me, don't know anything else about it.  It did connect in the first place though, as I said, I had the full  control panel up on my PC and did some playlist creating with it, but now nothing.

Hi Iain,

Looking at your first post, I see that your B2 IP address is showing as 168.195.1.95.  This is somewhat unusual.  Normally the address range will be 192.168.x.y where x will be 0 or 1 or 2 and y can be any number, usually betweeen 2 and 253.

When the B2 starts up, it initiates a connection request to a router (either wired or wireless) for an IP address.  The router responds by sending an IP address to the B2 (from the router's IP address table).  The IP addressing is controlled by the router.

Can you log into your router's 'admin' page to look at the router's IP setup?  If so, what IP address do you use to connect from your PC into the router.  Also, can you post the make and model of your router, so that I can look at the router's manual.

The Brennan devices are normally very good at connecting to routers, and most of the connection issues are down to router and network problems, so don't give up yet!

Regards,
Peter.

Latest report.  It started working for a while.  Sorted some of my music out.  Now alternates being not connecting and connecting but giving me an empty device.  Still plays.

That picture indicates that your computer's browser is not connected to your Brennan.

Hi Philip,

The IP address showing in the browser is 192.168.0.102.  This would be more like what I would expect to see, but is this the same IP address showing in the B2 front panel display?

In your original post the IP address given was 168.195.1.95, so has something been changed since then?

Regards,
Peter.

Which begs the question why was it working half an hour before that, and then stopped when nothing else had changed.  Since then I've rebooted the PC, the Brennan and my router and I just get the can't connect page again.

The IP address you give above is Iain's from the original post, mine has always been 192.168.0.102.  Never changed, just checked it to make sure.

Further to Daniel's message that I can't find now, my IP address is 192.168.0.102.  That is what is giving me the :

Hmmm... cannot reach this page

Try this

messages, despite working this afternoon.  I'm not even getting the empty Brennan screen anymore.  The OC is connected to the wifi, the Brennan is connected to the wifi, they just won't connect to each other.

Hi Phillip,

Previously you said 'the MAC and IP showed up in my router, but when I added them, it rebooted and the Brennan hasn't been seen since' - does that mean you logged into the router to 'add' the IP and MAC addresses? This is not normally necessary unless you need to fix the IP and if you have fixed the wrong IP the router will always be looking in the wrong place for the B2. Is there any way of removing/deleting these settings from the router?

No I could see them in the routers page on my PC.  It now seems that if I reboot the B2's wifi every time I try and use it it will work.
